Air conditioning barely worked, was loud and hotel is generally dirty

Room 520 does not meet expectation for a "deluxe" stay at Sofitel in D.C

I would like to begin by complimenting the bellman, front desk, and housekeeping staff, who were all delightful and immediately attentive to room requests. The room itself, 520, was FAR below my expectation for a "deluxe" $525. night accomodation. I made this reservation for 3 seniors, months in advance, so we could attend a local DC event with the expectation of feeling safe and comfortable in a elevated class of lodging within walking distance of the event, and of restaurants. Although I reserved for 3 guests, upon arrival, we found room 520 was prepared for no more than 2 guests. 2 coffee cups, 1 bathrobe, 3 bath towels, 2 wash cloths, 2 hand towels. The sofabed was not prepared with linens so at bedtime, I had to request and wait for same. The sofabed was in poor condition; one of the cushions was torn, and held together with safety pins. The mattress was stained (with old blood?) and was not protected with a mattress pad. The sofa bed functioned poorly, (or was broken) being VERY difficult to open without superior upper body strength, or 2 people. It could not be closed down without the assistance of a male housekeeper the next day. The second morning, we just had to leave it open. This limited our use of the sofa in the mornings which significantly decreased our enjoyment of the room, and our ability to watch morning news etc. Both outlets on the side of the small fridge into which the coffee pot was plugged did not work, so I had to set up the coffee station in the only alternate location, which was on the desk. This limited the remaining available outlets for our electronics, and restricted the ability to swing the TV to view the screen from the beds. The phone by the bed did not function. The hairdryer had poor airflow; almost useless; which was due to hair and dust in the filter. It smelled hot and glowed red the last morning, so was unplugged and abandoned; another bad hair day. No posted room instruction concerning location of switches for the lights in closet area and outside the bathroom which was completely dark at night. This would have been appreciated, as the switches to operate these lights arevNOT in the closet area at all, but between the beds, which we did not locate until the second day. No info about where to locate ice machine or if a call to room service was required. I provided a written and detailed revew on the morning of check out for the hotel manager for follow up, and the young lady at the front desk took it back to this person immediately. I provided my name, cell, and email, but recieved no acknowlegment or reply. Dissapointing. Overall quite an expensive pricetag for a frustrating stay.

We greatly enjoyed our experience at the hotel with only one exception, which was that there was a musty mildew odor in our room which we did complain about, but it was not fixed during our stay.

Had a one night stay in a corner king room. The room was well appointed and spacious. I left an item of value behind after checkout and the staff were so prompt and attentive, sending the item to me for a speedy return to my next hotel. Would absolutely stay again
