I've been to this hotel 6 times in the last year and a half and every time the staff is fantastic, the room is very nice, and the amenities are thoughtful.

You can hear a constant beep from the room, wifi didn’t always work in the room, reception desk personal was not attentive or welcoming, free coffee /tea services was often out of supplies and coffee was cold, breakfast took ages to get served and we have to remind servers multiple times of the orders and often times didn’t get what we asked for. The only 2 people I want to highlight was the attentive cleaning lady and the young man who seemed to be running the breakfast room (wearing a suit) and running around the room to help manage the chaos.

Juan Pablo of the front desk was amazing. He helped us before we even arrived to setup a DC tour. (Mark of Heavens Bridges tours was fabulous!), annswered anll of our questions and provided top tier service the entire stay. This is our second stay in this hotel. Housekeeping is great with a very clean room. The food is excellent, including room service. The handmade pasta is not to be missed. And the French onion soup is very good as well. Very close to DC attractions and all the staff go above and beyond to exceed expectations.

We had a mixed stay at Sofitel DC Lafayette Square. On the positive side, the front desk & door team were exceptionally warm and welcoming, and breakfast was outstanding every morning. However, several operational & room issues impacted our stay. Upon arrival, our initial room had a broken window shade and the double queen room a strong mildew odor, requiring us to change rooms. The mattress in our second room had a noticeable divot, making for uncomfortable sleep. Additionally, on our second night, requests for sparkling water & Epsom salts were forgotten, turndown service was missed entirely, and our dinner order at Opaline had a mix-up. The hotel's location and wonderful hospitality staff are true highlights, but room maintenance & attention to detail need improvement to meet Sofitel's luxury standards.

I arrived in town for a conference held a couple of blocks away, and the Sofitel was the conference hotel. Fantastic experience. The room was well appointed and comfortable, nice combo of standing shower and a full, separate bathtub, Bose clock radio/stereo....Keurig coffee machine. Very nice overall.

Upon arriving, I discovered I had left my phone in the Uber--the desk staff were very helpful arranging my phone being dropped off at the hotel for me! The Opaline menu was so top notch French faire, I chose to eat dinner there every night of my stay for 6 nights, the Maître de, waiters and bar staff were excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. There was no reason to go anywhere else and it is 800 ft away from historical Old Ebbitt Grill for happy hour Oysters! I was happy to find their patio open for a cigar or cigarettes and a chill spot to roll some phone calls and quick meetings. The rooms are very well maintained and serviced -- and my bed was incredibly comfortable! It's an exceptional place to stay--you'll feel like home very quickly

The hotel seemed understaffed all the time. Had to wait for breakfast service for a good 40 minutes and for the front desk to get some info. Unfortunately, the front desk staff was not helpful. I booked with Amex, and the staff did not even try to accommodate Amex benefits... When I asked if there was any chance for an upgrade, "oh, we already upgraded you"--which was not true:) it was the room i booked. asked for a late checkout "oh we are so full"--both times without even looking at the system:) The room service was inconsistent- I had to look for people to refill body lotion...they have a turn-down service- just one night happened:) Not the second night...anyways, not a bad hotel but definitely not a luxury hotel.

We were greeted warmly upon arrival, but found the experience to be nothing special. The hotel and room were clean, but I found the service overall to be relatively indifferent. The room seemed equipped for only one guest (1 set of towels, 1 scratchy robe). My room was wonderfully quiet, maybe because my view was an alley with a building right outside - that's okay, it's what I booked. However, the food was a different story: at breakfast, the service was mostly absent and after a long day in DC, we ordered room service, which produced the worst steak I've ever had. It was grey on the outside, and sinewy/chewy on the inside. I'd expect a "French" restaurant to be able to produce steak frites. At least I didn't go hungry because I had the fries.
