The room where I stayed did not have a regular closet and it was very small, did not hold all my clothes. And there was no full length mirror in the room. On the 2nd day they brought a stand alone mirror which I appreciated but the room was not what I would have expected from the Royal York.

I have stayed a Royal York a couple of times and had no issues. This time I took customers with me and their room was great. My room was ok, but there must have been drywall and painting repairs in the bathroom (before my check in) because there was drywall dust, plaster and paint chips throughout the bathtub, sink counter area and floor. I took pictures and made the front desk aware..nothing was done as it was late Also, there was no hot water on the day we arrived, so we had cold showers... but the next morning the water was scorching hot... definitely not what I was expecting from a Fairmont.

The Royal York has come a long way and my experience was fabulous. I was there for TIFF and had great meetings in the foyer lounge and the Library lounge. Room was fabulous, thanks for accommodating. Paul at the front desk was great and super helpful.

1) I got food poisoning from a meatball (I did not eat anywhere else but at the hotel during my stay). 2) At 130am cigarette smoke came into my room through the vent. 3) The fan in the room was set to blow right at the head of the bed, so if I wanted the fan on I had to sleep with wind in my face. The fan should blow anywhere else than that. 4) The bathroom was so small that it was awkward to reach the toilet paper dispenser, which meant I needed to pull at the toilet paper, which would then tear. All of these things were ridiculous for a hotel of at that price point. Ridiculous... Way below normal Fairmont standards...

The Fairmont is centrally located to a few spots downtown Toronto within walking distance which is awesome. The hotel was aesthetically pleasing. Couple of nuisances, upon check-in, the front desk did not inform us where the elevators were until we asked. Also, I don’t feel we received any true value for our paid room. Rooms were small, steamer isn’t the best option for wrinkle free clothing. Bathroom had visible dust bunnies around signaling they don’t even try to deep clean the rooms during off seasons or down time. Bathroom door is see through and wakes you up if the other person flips the light switch on. You’re barely able to use the closet to hang clothing. There are no drawers in the room for your clothes. It was nice they gave you a bottle of water daily for the room free of charge.

Our first visit to Canada. We arrived by train and this was across the street from station. The hotel is fabulous and a special experience. A surprise birthday treat was delivered to our room of chocolate covered strawberries and wine.

Arrived before check-in time of 4pm, but room was ready, and check-in process went smoothly. Room was spacious and comfortable. Only complaints were the quality of the pillows ( too soft), and checkout process (couldn’t express checkout via my phone or room tv).

We stayed at Fairmont 7 - 9 September. Our room was fine and the hotel was basically okay but we did have two major problems. First, was the long line to get checked in. It took about 30 minutes. After a long haul flight and then a taxi drive from the airport that is the last thing we needed. Not enough check-in desks were manned. It is clear from reading other customer reviews that this was not an isolated case. It was the same on checkout. Very disrespectful and inconsiderate to customers to make them wait like this. Second, almost everywhere you went in the hotel, including the lobby and dining areas, there is incessant boom, boom, boom, music playing. Why does the hotel management think that customers want to listen to that all the time? It was boring beyond belief and made conversation difficult. Both these negative features are consequences of conscious decisions made by the management. They are not accidents.

The room we were given was clean. I felt the size of the room was not suitable for 3 adults, storage was not enough, the room would be more suited to a 2 person room with 1 king sized bed. The mini-bar we did not use and a small cooler would have been better for us as we had to request a fridge for medical reasons. While the fridge was a great help it took up space in an already small room. More USB sockets would have been helpful. The hotel is very beautiful but the bedrooms need upgraded.

Having queued for 15 minutes at Reception on arrival, we then spent another 25 minutes standing while your staff tried to find us a “nice” room. Our booked one had obviously been given away. Our room was so small that the only place for our bags was the second bed - so we spent 3 uncomfortable nights in a small double bed. The room was poorly lit so we used torches to read. Bathroom miniscule with elderly wasteful plumbing - the tap also ran while showering. Staff were very nice and helpful but couldn’t make up for the elderly building (or the faded, worn, grubby chairs in the Clockwork room). Reluctantly, we are booked to return for a couple of nights by our agent - but hopefully in a better room.
