My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in September. We had previously stayed here August 22. Our experience was excellent then, we particularly enjoyed The Library Bar. On arrival, we arrived before check in time, and we showed our passports and were told that my husband would be texted once our room was available. This did not happen. My husband returned to Reception after 4pm. He described the receptionist as hostile. She demanded to see my passport again - my husband told her that as this has already been shown it wasn’t required again. The first night of our stay we tried to access The Library Bar. We were informed it was fully booked. After the appalling check in service we’d received I asked to speak to a Manager. I outlined our poor check in service and miraculously a table was found for us. Our check out was a better experience, the receptionist was helpful. He asked how our stay had been and we outlined the poor service we’d received. He ensured my husband we’d be contacted via email or mobile. Needless to say we’ve heard nothing back from the Fairmont. If you’d like to go to an establishment where you are meant to feel grateful for being a guest, then this is the establishment for you - this is not how I wish to spend my vacation. We won’t be returning. It would be great if the Fairmont could follow up on our stay as we were assured they would at check out.

Dear Royal York Fairmont Toronto, I recently traveled from overseas and booked a three-day stay at your hotel. Although I arrived earlier than the 4:00 p.m. check-in time, I was unaware that sitting in the hotel lobby prior to check-in was not permitted. Unfortunately, I was treated poorly by two of your staff members and was even asked to leave. As a loyal Accor member for over a decade, this experience was deeply disappointing and felt unwelcoming. Being told to leave at 4:40 a.m., when there are no open options in Toronto, left me feeling stranded and disrespected. Due to this experience, I canceled my reservation and will not be returning to your hotel. I believe hospitality should be a priority, and your staff’s approach did not reflect this. As the saying goes, "A person may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you made them feel." I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that all guests, regardless of status, feel welcomed and valued. Sincerely, Lm alketbi

I recently stayed at the Fairmont Royal York during a conference. I had an excellent stay. The amenities are beautiful and the hotel very comfortable. The pool and associated facilities were beautiful - a spa-like experience which was a highlight of my stay.

Good stay, polite staff, overall good experiences everytime I come to the fairmont. Lost something at valet and they were very quick to help me find it. Reign restaurant was very delicious, a bit over priced but, very good. Accommodating to my diet/allergies appreciated my dinner server Victoria for that!

Well I expected more from the Fairmont and sadly I was to be disappointed. As other reviewers have pointed out the place is tired and ready for an update and refurb. The loud music in the foyer is like walking into some Las Vegas hotel and it is so impersonal. We had a luxury room, but in no way was it luxury. Small poky bathroom, toiletries bolted on to the walls, car park view and just a couple of cartons of complementary water. Oh and our first allocated room was next to the lift shafts, so we had our first night ruined with all the noise from the Lift mechanics as people checked in and out throughout the night. We then requested a room move which was quickly accommodated, only to be hijacked by the Bell boy wanting another tip to 'orientate' us around the new room, all 23sq m of it and which was identical to the first but without the lift noise..... LOL. We were charged for mini bar usage post check out so I had to ring from the UK and get that credited back on to my credit card as we never used the mini bar! Poor hotel experience for the price charged, decrepit city full of hobo's sleeping on the street, not something i will ever want to experience again.
