The room was not what I expect from a Fairmont hotel. The mini-bar fridge had obviously been tampered with by a previous guest and had a milk carton stuffed in there on an angle, pushed against the door. I called to let an operator know, but they didn't send anyone to clean it up. There was a 2 ft by 2 ft wet spot on the carpet beside one of the beds. We discovered it by stepping in it right before bedtime, so didn't call because we needed to get to sleep. The power to the desk and lamp did not work at all. Discovered by plugging in a phone and later realizing it hadn't charged. There was the constant sound of running water through pipes in the wall right behind our heads while trying to sleep. All of these things combined mean that unless we think they are being addressed, we would not bother staying at a Fairmont hotel again. We expect much better from your brand of hotels.

Smell in room

Was given rm 11-105, the smell in the room was not conductive to sleeping so we had to keep our window open all night. The smell was like a pet dog, or someone vomited behind the bed. After pulling everthing out we found nothing but the smell lingered. Could not get another room as hotel was full when asked, without having to pay more. Needless to say this was brought up to management and we were charged for 1 night instead of 2. Location was good, but rooms were not worth $237/night. It is an old hotel.

From the valet parking, to the bell hop, to the front desk staff, to the in-room dining personnel, everyone was friendly and courteous and very helpful. The room was wonderfully appointed. Really enjoyed our stay.

First time at the RY since the renovation. Meaningful and necessary updates to an iconic property have really brought it back to life. Couple of complaints: 1. Our room was designed for a physically disabled person though we would not fit into that category. While the room overall was fine, the access door to the bathroom was loud, could not be closed and the shower designed for a person with physical limitations. These rooms should be reserved for those who need them. 2. We spent the night including drinks and dinner at the hotel and roughly $1k all told, but were still charged for parking ($50). That felt like a bit of kick after an overall enjoyable experience. (*yes, we still of course tipped the valet)

Hi Edwin I wanted to reach out and share some feedback about our recent stay. I don’t usually do this but I felt quite compelled to fill you in. Firstly I want to make it clear that this was not a regular stay for us and we booked this as a special treat due to some occasions so we did not book this stay lightly given the financial cost. We booked online and I called a few days later to book the pool and he was very friendly. Upon arrival the gentleman at the York door the door man was extremely helpful. There was a lot of cars and people so we were unsure where to go and what to do etc. and we were quite emotional and upset; he came to our rescue and made everything so straightforward. We went inside to check in. We were not sure where to go but knew from our research that our check in was on the 18th floor so we proceeded there. The man at check in was busy so we waited patiently then a woman came behind the desk. I believe her name was Louise. She was friendly and we gave our name but then she told us our room was not ready even though it was near 1pm and we had booked early check in because our plan was to be there for 11am. She offered no solution until I said we had the pool booked so we would go straight there. She said she would text and thanked us for accommodating but truthfully there was no other choice. She said she would take off that fee but honestly that was just more frustrating than anything. She promised our luggage would be brought up so we proceeded to the pool with very little direction. The pool was fine but it said there was a whirlpool which was the jacuzzi and that was closed but that was not clear on website. Changing room facilities were ok but we only saw steam room and sauna when we were leaving and didn't know if we were allowed to use them outside the time block we had for the pool so had to leave it. The person at the desk bore no information on our arrival which is disappointing. We went back up to check in and it was the first guy from earlier. We gave the name and he asked about our luggage to which scared me as we were told it would be in the room. He then asked was it for an anniversary which was confusing. We got the key but he gave no other details on times of things or anything else that came with the Gold Experience but we were just ready to get to the room and figured info would be there. We went to the room and we were blown away in fairness. The room was stunning and we really loved it. And thankfully our luggage was there. We had a rest and decided we would browse the info on the TV. From there we decided to order room service so we decided what we wanted and went to call it in to be told that it was not open til 5 even though it said 24hours on the TV info. We sorted ourselves out and went out to get a bite. When we returned we decided to rest and make use of the room! We got ready and went upstairs for canapes as described to be told at the desk that it was over even though we were never told the time. We were disappointed but said we would have a drink up there anyway. No menu and v little information on whats available. We had a drink and we asked about where to eat. The server recommended the clock tower so we went down after we finished our drink. We were told it would be about 40-50 mins. We were a little annoyed that the server upstairs didn't mention this but put our names down and went back upstairs for another drink. It got to 9.35 and still no text so we decided we would leave it and just order room service. We went to the room and dialled for in room service and it rang out for 10 mins so we called the gold experience and they eventually answered and said the line was probably busy and that was it. We called it for another while and nothing then at 10.15 we got the text for downstairs so just went down to the bar. The server was pleasant but was definitely short staffed. We ate and hoped for the best for the next morning and finding out what the gold experience offered. When we were told of the wait for the clocktower and went back up we booked in for breakfast the next morning. The next morning we went up for breakfast and it was fine. V basic for the apparent Gold standard. That afternoon as we had late checkout we came up for canapes and tea to be told there were no canapes but at least shown where we could make coffee. After we wanted to meet some people at the bar for a drink so went down and there was a queue even though one table had just paid their bill but they continued to sit there for 30 mins even though there was no other bar open and the hostess acknowledged it but didn't address it with them. There were other tables but they were reserved for distancing. Eventually I said could we order drinks to the room and that's when she said we could just order at the bar. So we did but even that felt like an ordeal. Upon checkout I was not even asked about my experience and honestly I was too annoyed to even get into it. I asked for a luggage trolley to the room and that felt like the most efficient thing the whole stay. He was incredibly gracious and very pleasant. We went down to the foyer and he was so attentive and helped get everything into the car in a timely manner. Between him, the doorman that day, the man for the luggage the previous day and the turn down worker they were the only ones that truly gave attention to not only their job but also were gracious and pleasant. What I would like to know is what is the Gold Experience and why didn't we get to experience it? Thoroughly disappointed and really shocked that you can charge for something and then not deliver. Stayed in the Fairmont Gold Suite for a special get away. Staff were lovely and attentive, and the suite was fantastic. Excellent dining and drinks within the hotel. A five-star experience!

Parking was a nightmare. Finding the valet or the park it yourself lot was not easy on a Friday evening. We ended up paying for parking elsewhere. The room was just ok. Bathroom was super small. “Renovated” room looked tired already. Had been hoping for the upgrade I applied for since they were still showing those rooms available online but when I got there I was told no. The wait to grab a drink at the bar was an hour. The staff were friendly and polite.

The room was spacious and very comfortable. We had a light meal at Reign in the evening and breakfast the next day, all food and drink delicious and very gracious servers. We appreciated the friendliness and professionalism of the staff and elegant decor of the hotel.
