i want to express my strong dissatisfaction with my recent stay at Mama Shelter Lisbon. To acknowledge what was done well: the check-in process was smooth, and Anna C at the front desk was helpful and pleasant. She was professional and welcoming. Unfortunately, that was where the positive experience ended. While the hotel’s interior design and overall aesthetic are visually appealing, the room carpets were clearly dirty and in urgent need of replacement. Cleanliness is a fundamental expectation, not an optional extra. What is far more concerning is the absence of basic hotel amenities. No slippers. No toothbrush. No kettle. No iron in the room. When I requested an iron, I was told I needed to go down to reception to collect a steamer myself. If I wanted hot water, I had to go down to the bar and ask for it. This is not hospitality — it is inconvenience disguised as a “concept.” The most unacceptable issue was the fact that only one small bottle of complimentary water was provided for the entire stay. Drinking water is a basic necessity. Restricting it sends a very poor message about guest care. In many regions of the world — particularly in the Arabian Gulf — hotels understand that hydration and comfort are not luxuries. They are standard hospitality. Using “sustainability” as a blanket justification for removing essential comforts is not convincing. Guest hygiene, comfort, and ease should be the priority in any hotel. There are numerous environmentally responsible practices that do not involve stripping rooms of basic amenities or forcing guests to repeatedly go downstairs for simple requests. I strongly believe that Accor needs to seriously reassess the Mama Shelter concept. In its current execution, it feels like the burden of convenience has been shifted entirely onto the guest. A hotel stay should feel seamless and comfortable — not like a continuous effort to obtain items that should already be available in the room. This experience fell well below reasonable expectations, and I hope it prompts meaningful changes rather than being dismissed as routine feedback.

Cleanliness and maintenance are priorities for us, and we continuously monitor these standards. Concerning amenities, we would like to clarify that Mama Shelter follows a specific lifestyle concept. As we do not offer traditional room service, certain items may require collection from reception or the bar when requested. However, we understand that this may feel inconvenient, and we apologize if this caused frustration during your stay. Slippers, kettles and irons are not standard in all rooms. That said, whenever requested, our team does its best to accommodate these needs. While we do not provide irons in the rooms, we offer steamers upon request at reception. We regret if this was not aligned with your expectations. Regarding water, one complimentary bottle is provided upon arrival as part of our sustainability commitment. Should guests require additional water, our team is always happy to refill personal bottles, or additional bottles can be purchased at the bar. Concerning toothbrushes, this is indeed not an item currently available at the hotel, and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused. We fully understand that hospitality standards may differ across regions, and we truly value your perspective.
