Fine hotel, lovely clean room, spacious, friendly staff. But was told I couldn't stay there unless I paid a £40 surcharge on top of the quoted price. This was claimed to be a pet surcharge. However, I registered the dogs at time of booking, and was clearly informed that the total charge would be £56.70. Think it is totally unacceptable to force extra charges on customers without prior notification.

I get the budget offer - no frills decor and maybe not the most convenient location for a budget price, but I do expect a decent bed. This one was woefully, cynically awful: a really cheap mattress way past its prime, unsupportive and permanently dented, with cheap and lumpy pillows. A terrible night's sleep. I wish I'd paid the few pounds more for one of your competitors.

Chaotic check-in with new arrivals being served before others who had been waiting longer. Shower filthy, covered in long black hairs and not cleaned despite being reported. Bathroom sink plug stuck in hole, had to brush teeth in shower. Bed mattress felt like straw stuffed in a pillowcase. Tiniest room I have ever seen. Literally nowhere to put clothes, no drawer, shelf, cupboard or ledge. 2 hangers on a wall rail. Lived out of suitcase which I tripped over at night. No cooked breakfast,went next door to eat and used their bar in the evenings.
