The Ibis Styles Melbourne Southbank is a clean and modern hotel in a good location with nice-sized rooms, friendly staff, comfortable beds, Nespresso coffee in the rooms and air-conditioning that actualy works. So why would I rate it only a 6 out of 10? Because of the increasingly-common, but nevertheless ludicrous, practice of not having a door to the bathroom. The shower, in particular, requires you to step out into the room in naked glory for whoever else is there to see. This is problematic enough in a room with a double bed. But I booked a twin room; same design. It really does require a special level of incompetence for a designer to think, "Well, they don't want to sleep in the same bed, but I'm sure they're perfectly fine with seeing each other naked"! Here's some free advice: put a door in, so people can CHOOSE whether to leave it open or not. But if not having that privacy doesn't bother you, then stay here with confidence.

The staff were extremely efficient and friendly and made our stay very pleasant. The freshly cooked breakfast was delicious. The location was great for our visit to the Melbourne Recital Centre.
