Mercure is conveniently located near Southern Cross Station, which makes it very easy to get to and from the airport. There is a tram stop just outside the hotel and is within the free tram zone. The hotel itself was very new and all facilities were in good condition. There are meter parking spaces along the street behind it and also a parking lot next to it with special hotel parking rate.

We arrived early at 9 AM after an international flight with three bookings for a 5-night stay. Cindy asked us to wait outside and promised an email update, but never contacted us for over two hours. We were forced to return exhausted before she finally checked us in. As one of the earliest guests, we were deliberately given the worst corner room on the low M mezzanine floor. Our repeated requests for a higher-floor room of the same category were rejected and lied about being fully booked. Staff Michael refused to assist even when we proved identical rooms were still available online and offered to pay extra for an upgrade. He used language as an excuse to ignore valid requests. Only after a Chinese-speaking staff intervened did we get a proper room on the 3rd floor. Rooms were clearly available but intentionally withheld from Asian guests. Terrible unprofessional and racist treatment. Strongly not recommended for Chinese and Asian travellers.

Our standard check-in time is 2:00 PM. Despite this, our Front Desk team made every effort to accommodate your early arrival and arranged an early check-in from approximately 7:00 AM, several hours before our official check-in time. At 7:00 AM, the only rooms available and ready for immediate occupancy were three rooms located on the Mezzanine level. Our team attempted to explain this to you, but unfortunately, the language barrier made communication difficult. Recognising this, the Front Desk contacted another member of staff to assist with the explanation and ensure that you understood the available options. During this time, you repeatedly indicated on your phone that rooms were available to book online. Our team did not dispute that rooms could be booked; the issue was that the rooms showing as available at that time were also located on the Mezzanine level and were not higher-floor rooms. Importantly, our team did not simply ask you to wait. They went above and beyond to find another solution. Housekeeping was contacted and asked to prioritise the cleaning of a vacant, dirty room on the 3rd floor. This additional effort was completed by approximately 8:30 AM, allowing you and your family to access a 3rd-floor room around five hours before our advertised check-in time. We are therefore particularly concerned by the allegation that rooms were deliberately withheld from you because you are Asian, or that our staff acted in a racist or discriminatory manner. This allegation is completely unfounded and does not reflect the actions taken by our team. The timeline and actions above demonstrate that our staff actively worked to accommodate your early arrival and ultimately secured a higher-floor room for you well before the property's official check-in time. We are proud of our diverse team and welcome guests from all backgrounds. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind, and equally, we believe our staff should not be unfairly accused of racism when the circumstances and actions taken demonstrate otherwise. While we regret that there was a communication difficulty during your arrival, we stand by the efforts made by Cindy, Michael, and the wider Front Desk and Housekeeping teams to assist you and your family. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. Staff in dining hall friendly and efficient. Located close to Spencer street station, DFO and tram line. Concierge Michael was very courteous and helpful.

Overall the stay was great, the location, bed was comfortable, bathroom modern and nice, staff really friendly and ability to fill up a water bottle with still or sparking was great. The restaurant food was delicious. The only drawback was the size of the room, very very small - probably good for one person but was squashy for two people. Great though if you don't plan to be in the room much.

Was excited given the restaurant is fairly new. Check in experience was ordinary. Breakfast was quite poor. Service during breakfast was mediocre. Disappointed!
