Two nights in Melbourne for work. The Kingsgate was very well located for the meetings I had around Collins Street and Docklands. Quiet room on the top floor. Great shower and bed was okay. Check-in and out process was smooth with all staff friendly and informative. Parking close by and reasonable price also by Melbourne standards. Great place to stay for a quick work visit.

Only a short walk from Southern Cross Station and the Skybus Terminal, this hotel/building is celebrating its 100-years - so the layout and features of this hotel are certainly more historic. It still has many of its original features, though pleasingly since my last visit the lobby has been renovated and made a lot brighter and more welcoming. The Melbourne/Victoria murals on some of the corridor walls have helped to make the hotel seem more ‘hip’ and modern. The rooms do remain fairly basic though, but are the beds are comfortable - plus there is an iron, full sized fridge, kettle and even a laundry should you need it during an extended stay. Also somewhere to store your luggage before check-out/check-in which I found was a pain at some the other Ibis hotels in Melbourne who only had paid lockers. While the back rooms only look into an internal courtyard, they are blissfully quiet and there are no wailing sirens throughout the night. The front desk and housekeeping and cafe staff are all very friendly and helpful. Ibis Styles Kingsgate is great value for money if you are a no-frills/fuss visitor to Melbourne and my ‘go-to’ hotel if want to be close to transport links.

Staff service was excellent. Reasons for marking down were: We are older people with luggage, so the steps at the front were an unpleasant surprise. Suggest you install a luggage lift or, inform older guests that they can get staff help with carrying. The range and quality of the breakfast offering is inferior to other Ibis hotels we have used, so we only used it once. Despite these, we would happily stay there again.
