Back after 2+ years, not as expected

After 2+ years of no travel, finally was able to return to Novotel Central in Melbourne. Unfortunately this stay didn't go as well as I remember from previous stays. At check-in was advised there is no daily room service, but the room would be cleaned/services after the 2nd night. I confirmed this the morning after the 2nd night but unfortunately the room was *not* cleaned. I called to request at least some extra towels, and when I came back a pile of towels was in the room (nothing else). Understand there probably are staff shortages, but if the limited service is indicated it should be done as advertised. Reception gets *very* busy at times, late-checkout (around 4pm) and the queue was out of the door. A key drop box or something could potentially help reducing the demand on reception.

Wasn't happy but the manager responded outstandingly.

Have stayed in the past once and loved it. This stay wasn't as good. I responded accordingly on Tripadvisor however since then the manager has gone above and beyond to listen and acknowledge my feedback. While the stay experience was definitely lacking, the post Covid-19 nightmare was legitimately to blame for most shortcomings. As far as room quality (except for standard rooms which are TINY if it's two of you) was excellent, food was of a very high standard; both breakfast buffet and room service. Get rid of the automatic coffee machines and provide FREE barista coffee only, which is in line with Melbourne's coffee prowess. Being asked to pay for a proper coffee when you've already paid for the breakfast buffet is cheap and really spoils the breakfast experience. Otherwise great location-remember trams are free within the CBD in Melbourne so nothing is too far. I'd definitely stay here again - just not in a standard room if I can avoid it.

Unhappy with overall experiences. Was not told before booking the rooms that there would only be one room services every 2-3 days. Even after confirming the date of the room services required and despite going personally down to request for the rooms to be service and clean on that day, it was not done until another request was made. It was only done in the night. On the day of departure, we requested the duty receptionist to help us to keep some perishable confectioneries in the fridge but not in the freezer. On our return to pick up the goods, to our surprised, the confectioneries were all frozen which rendered them inedible.

Experience was fine. Was disappointed that the room we were given was a disabled room when we had not requested that. Room was clean and well appointed though. Staff were very helpful. We had a Accor gift card that we were unable to use as it was out of date. I feel that it should have been honoured as noone could use these gifts over the Covid lockdowns. I will take this up with the main office, it was not the staffs fault or problem.

Check I took forever- no priority line for for platinum members anymore Room not made up, when I called to ask why was told I needed to ask to have it made up. Why wasn’t I told this at check in? I then asked for room to be made up every day but still didn’t happen Tried to call reception a number of times and no answer- when I finally got someone told room not getting made up due to issue with linen company. Someone could still take rubbish from room and make bed couldn’t they? In the restaurant at breakfast I asked for a second coffee and was told it would be extra even though breakfast was included (as a platinum member) … so I can have all the food I can eat, but not a second coffee? Pretty damned poor! I’ve stayed at this hotel a lot since it opened and very disappointing in how the service has slipped.

I had a nice stay at this Novotel. It was my first stay at a Novotel property and I found it to be a good balance between comfort and value. Being a relatively new hotel, the rooms were well designed and spacious. One issue I did notice about my stay was staff communication between reception and the restaurant. I was informed at check-in that my room rate included free breakfast but when I visited the restaurant for breakfast I was informed that my room rate only included discounted breakfast which was a big difference. If that could be fixed, that would improve service quality.

Room was really nice. Nicest I’ve stayed in many Accor properties. The only downside was room 3507 had some vibration noise that would kick in around 8am. Was fine as we were awake by then. Might annoy other guests.

When I arrived the girl said that we had free breakfast with our accommodation. I said that was a nice surprise. But when it came to finalise the account the next day, that wasn't acknowledged. I raised this with the duty manager. It was really the principlal, more than the cost. Room was nice and we had a light meal in the hotel.

There was no staff to service the rooms. I have seen this for the first time that my room was not serviced for consecutive three days, even upon special request. This is basic hygiene which is being compromised. Secondly, there was no one to receive calls at reception. I tried to call three times at different occasions and never got a response in return. Card machines were not working while checkout. After checking out on 1st May, till today on 5th May, my deposit refund is pending which was promised in maximum 1-2 days.

Pleasant and helpful staff, good bed, good shower. Location was excellent for walking around Melbourne. Only slight negative is the limited menu at Floyd's although what we ordered was good. 2 for 1 cocktail hour was a bonus.

Paid more for queen bed, still got double. Bathroom sliding door damaged, would not stay closed. Spoons for tea/coffee not cleaned properly. Shower was a constant hot and cold experience. Location pretty good for the price though and buffet brekky was nice. Staff were polite. Check in/out was smooth.

booked a 2 night stay via accor card, used my complimentary night, first stay at this hotel. Faciliities and rooms were good, very quiet on 27 th floor, location OK, a little bit more walking to get to some of the venues we like, so probably wouldnt stay here again only because of that reason. Checkout area desks need sprucing up and checkout was slow as only one staff member, also on checkin we were told there would be no housekeeping provided. Bar and breakfast were good.

Everything you would expect from a Novotel. Its great hotel a short walk from Melbourne Central. The bathroom design is a little strange, but once you get past that, its a fantastic affordable hotel. I recommend it.
