Mercure Barnsley Tankersley Manor Hotel 4 stars

From my initial enquiry booking for 8 people to my stay and calls in between, the service was exceptional. All the staff on reservations were so helpful.

Lunch, spa treatments and evening meal were excellent. The room was also very inviting and comfortable. As this was a birthday present, I’m pleased to say it was a hit. This is not the first time doing a spa break and we have never been disappointed with anything. Lauren was a very good at the massage thingy and would not hesitate to book again

I grew up in Hoyland and Tankersley and actually worked the 1st restoration phase of Tankersley, so I was looking forward to seeing how the manor was now that all the work had been done to bring it to it's former glory and thought having a spa weekend would be a nice suprise for my wife. My booking reference number was [59…] and I was originally staying in room 240. Upon entering my room, I was immediately disappointed by the lack of cleanliness. Specifically, the beds were unmade, indicating the room had not been properly prepared for my arrival. Furthermore, the floor carpeting was in a state of disrepair. It was torn in several places, turned up, and visibly unclean with numerous stains. It was also apparent that the carpet had not been hoovered, with visible dust and debris. In addition to the uncleanliness, the appliances in the room were also in poor condition. Not only was the heater rusted, but the radiator towel rail in the bathroom was also significantly rusted. This is unacceptable and raises concerns about the general maintenance and safety of the room's fixtures. Finally, even basic amenities were lacking, as the toilet roll in the bathroom was already on its end, suggesting inadequate preparation of the room. We attempted to resolve this matter with a member of your staff. However, the staff member we spoke to did not seem particularly interested in the situation. While she did agree to change our room, there was no offer to assist us with moving our luggage to the new room. This lack of assistance further added to our frustration and inconvenience. Adding to these issues, the new room we were assigned was located right next to what appeared to be a storage yard. This resulted in significant noise disturbance starting extremely early in the morning. On Saturday morning, I was woken up at 5:15am by noise emanating from what appeared to be storage yard, including banging and clanging, which continued and made it impossible to get any further rest. Given the extent of the noise disturbance at such early hours, and being told it wasn't booked up by staff it, quiet hotel and restaurant on the Saturday it seemed highly likely that there probably were other, quieter rooms available within the hotel. The decision to place us in a room directly adjacent to a noisy storage yard demonstrates a significant lack of consideration for guest comfort. Beyond the issues with the room, the condition of the hotel restaurant was also unacceptable. The table we were seated at was sticky, and the menus provided were similarly dirty and sticky. This created an unpleasant dining environment and further detracted from our overall experience. Compounding this disappointment, the reality of the dining facilities was significantly different from what was portrayed on your website and during the booking process. We were led to believe that the hotel offered a "white tablecloth fine dining" experience. Instead, the restaurant was simply a run-down bar area with uncovered distressed tables. This misrepresentation of a key amenity is highly misleading and unacceptable. The condition of the original room was far below the standard I expect from a hotel of your reputation, and its proximity to the work/storage yard was unacceptable. The uncleanliness, disrepair (including the rusted heater and radiator towel rail), lack of basic amenities, the disruptive early morning noise, the poor state of the restaurant, and the misrepresentation of the dining facilities were all significant detractions from my stay. Furthermore, the unhelpful attitude of the staff member when we raised these concerns was also disappointing. As a result of these issues, including the lack of assistance when changing rooms, the severely disruptive noise from the adjacent storage yard, the unpleasant dining experience in the restaurant, and the misleading information provided about the dining options, I experienced considerable discomfort, frustration, and a significant lack of sleep during my stay. To resolve this matter, I request a significant refund to reflect the extremely poor quality of the initial room, the inconvenience caused by moving, the unacceptable disruption caused by the early morning noise, the substandard conditions of the restaurant, and the misleading information provided about a key amenity which influenced our booking decision.
