The welcome in the hotel and the stay in the hotel were great as always. Spacious rooms; great breakfast... My wife turned 50 during our stay. We booked the bistro, since it we were also on our way back from Italy and had to leave again the morning after (Puro was closed) with a long ride ahead of us. When we arrived there was a table covered and reserved on a cosy corner of the terrace. I tried to explain to the bar supervisor that that was probably for us, but instead he took us (a couple) to another side of the terrace full with families with children. The other reserved table stayed empty all night. This makes me think that this was indeed our table. It’s a shame the bar supervisor spoke almost no English; otherwise, he would have understood that we had a reservation. Now we had to celebrate this special day for my wife among noisy children for nothing. We ordered a bottle of still water and a bottle of sparkling water, a glass of champagne, and a cocktail. A waiter brought these to another table—one that had been waiting for their drinks longer than we had—but they received the wrong ones (ours). This bartender, who also didn’t speak English, reacted very gruffly and surly, almost hostile, when I made it clear to him that these were our drinks. If only it had ended there. The champagne was completely flat—no bubbles, no flavor. When my wife pointed this out, she was offered another glass, but she’s on medication and couldn’t drink a second glass. Later, we noticed that everyone who ordered a single glass of wine or prosecco had it poured at the table and was allowed to taste it first, as is customary. This wasn’t done for the champagne. This leads me to suspect that they knew full well the champagne had seen better days—perhaps it was the last of the bottle? It’s a shame, because this practice meant that my wife’s birthday toast tasted anything but good. And my cocktail? I had to wait a very long time for it. Just like with our food. Many tables that arrived after us were served before us. When I asked about this, it turned out that the waitress had forgotten to pass our order on to the kitchen. She apologized profusely for this. And I emphasize “she.” We didn’t see either the bar supervisor or his boss, who was also spotted on the terrace a few times. She (I think her name was Maria) offered us a drink to make the rest of the wait more pleasant. As a manager, I find that very strange. When one of my employees makes a mistake, it’s not their fault, and I certainly don’t make them apologize to the customer. I take the blame myself and apologize to the customer. All the bar supervisor did was come over with a smile to tell us we didn’t have to pay for these drinks. No apology, nothing. His boss didn’t say a word at all. I want to strongly emphasize that I don’t think this was Maria’s fault. She was the only one among her colleagues who spoke English; all interactions with customers were left to her, and she was clearly still training someone else. No one can do the work of five people. When the food finally arrived the schnitzel of my wife was pure salt. It was a 50th birthday she really doesn't want to remember. I understand that during summer holidays your target customer audience differs from the one during business season. But standards shouldn't take days of. Mine as a customer don't and yours as a supplier certainly shouldn't do that. Will I still book the hotel when I am in Basel? Certainly, as a hotel the experience is as it should be and more. Will I book the bistro again if Puro is closed? No. And that is a pity, because there are days that you are tired and don't want to walk or drive anymore to find good quality food and drinks.

Regarding the air conditioning, we’d like to explain that, given the current very high outside temperatures, we cool the rooms down in advance so that our guests find a comfortable room temperature on arrival. Naturally, the temperature can be adjusted to suit your preferences or the air conditioning switched off. Our team would be happy to assist you with this at any time – it’s a shame we weren’t able to show you how to do this during your stay. We’re sorry that the coffee machine in your room wasn’t working properly. Here too, we would have been very happy to help you straight away or replace the machine if necessary. Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly during any future stay – we’re here for you round the clock. Regarding the flooring, we would like to point out that our hotel has now been in operation for six years. Despite our ongoing maintenance work, certain signs of wear and tear are unfortunately unavoidable in day-to-day hotel operations.
