The hotel is located near the Basel SBB train station. Room rate is very reasonable. Receptionists are friendly and helpful. They gave me the travel card in Basel.

I’ve stayed in Ibis hotels many times before, usually around the train station. I’ve never been as disappointed in one as I have been in the Basel Bahnhof ibis. In no particular order: 1. There were no hand towels, only larger shower towels, which makes it very difficult to use the body wash. 2. There’s black mold in the shower and the drain was backed up so that the water collected and almost flooded into the bathroom, even though I do not take very long showers. 3. There are no adapters or plugs near the bed, the main place one wants them. The plugs were all that one Swiss shape that most adapters/European plugs don't fit. 4. The shades are all blackout shades/blinds, so there’s no way to have any privacy with having any kind of light. 5. The window only opens one way as far as I can tell (unusual for Europe) and there was no way to keep the window open to get some air in the room other than using (very mediocre) air condition. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and I really appreciated being able to get an early check-in, but the hotel overall seemed old, dingy, and run-down. I will not recommend or come back.

The standard of Ibis Basel Bahnhof, regarding location and cleanliness, was decent. Sadly, at night, we noticed cigarette smell coming through the ventilation in our room. We asked for the possibility to change, but as the hotel was fully booked, it was absolutely not possible. In the end, we had to sleep with the window wide open. It was lucky that the temperature outdoor was not too low. The young receptionist at night tried his best to accommodate the situation, but, understandably, nothing he could have done more. He did pass on the information to the manager, and it was addressed to us when we were checking out the next morning. Surprisingly, the reaction of the manager was not to acknowledge the issue and take responsibility, but mentioning it was not their fault when other guests smoke in their room instead. As a hotel chain, we expect that there would be better protocol in case of situation like this occurs. We expected, as the manager of the hotel, the quality of the customer service, particularly his choice of word, would be of high standards. The positive action from him, was we got offered two complimentary drinks for the road, which was nice.
