clean, comfortable room and helpful staff. The number 16 tram stops outside every 10 minutes and is 4 short stops to the centre or you can walk to the centre in 10 minutes.

Overnight stay so the location to the station was spot on. Easily walkable into the city too. Staff were friendly with a good sense of humour too! Room was clean and exactly as we expect from Ibis.

Stayed here for a night in June as a connection stopover before getting the ICE train to Germany.  The hotel is in a fantastic location for Basel SBB central station, being a five minute walk to and from there.  The hotel additionally provides an unlimited public transport ticket to get you around the city for free for the duration of your stay (as a one night stay we had a 48 hour ticket for each of us), which was absolutely fantastic and enabled us to see a lot more of the city than we probably would have as public transportation can be very pricey in Basel.  Whilst the room was slightly dated (this is a budget hotel after all!), it was meticulously clean and quiet which as a connection hotel for us was very important to get a good nights rest in after a long day travelling, and another ahead of us.  The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful and spoke several languages to help guests with their queries seamlessly.  We opted into the breakfast as we had an early connection to make and this was plentiful, fresh and of good quality.  There was a staff member constantly checking food to ensure it was replenished. There are additionally many cafes in the close vicinity and at the station if you have more time however.  Would absolutely recommend for a quick, clean and quiet stopover.

I was charged for a stay I had already prepaid for

When I checked in, the person insisted I had not yet paid for the stay when I was sure that I had and I told her so, but she kept insisting I hadn't. But with booking 5 different hotels in Switzerland, some prepaid & some not, and being tired, I said, I guess you're right and let her charge my card. Having additional doubts, I was able to dig out my reservation details which showed I had prepaid through Expedia Canada and only had to pay the local tax of CHF 8 so I asked her to cancel my payment so it would not charge my card, rather than process a refund which would be two transactions I would both be charged foreign exchange on. She acknowledged that she made the mistake of not checking that it had been prepaid by a third party travel site & only needed to charge for the local tax, but said she couldn't figure out how to cancel the transaction and could only do a refund for the original amount, (less the CHF 8 local tax), which I reluctantly agreed to, just so I could get up to my room & relax. As a result of the foreign exchange spread on the purchase & refund, (excluding the CHF 8 local tax), I was charged an extra CAD$12 due to the person's carelessness and lack of training on using the credit card machine to cancel the transaction which would have prevented me from losing CAD$12 on the foreign exchange spread.
