The hotel was clean, modern, and spacious. Housekeeping came every day to tidy up and refill the complimentary mini bar, this was greatly appreciated. I enjoyed the location of the property on the river. My only disappointment was I had an inside facing room, one window opened to a glass elevator (had to keep the blinds shut all the time), the other window opened to an odd corridor of sorts. I had no view of anything remotely outside.

Swissotel was conveniently located on the tram route and their breakfast, included in the price of our stay, was superb, but we were placed in a tiny room and my side of the bed was against the wall so I had to crawl over the bed every time I wanted to lie down. We are age late 60s and have bad knees so this was terribly inconvenient & painful. Our traveling companions, who booked at the same time & for the same price, were assigned a comfortable room and did not have this problem; they were shocked by our room. I would not recommend this hotel if you have difficulty with your knees.

The front desk was great, could not say the same for the room service and restaurant, bit poor for this hotel standards, the standout was in the morning of day 2 of our stay, they decided to convert the hotel to a kind of training ground, to train one of the staff I am assuming, how to handle sales etc, right in the center of the restaurant occupying the best seats in the house, expressing his authority loudly, we don't need this, so unprofessional, surely he could find a some other place in the hotel?

Our daughter urgently needed a medication that we had ordered from the supplier. It arrived on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the front desk insisted that the medication had not arrived in the post. On Monday, we called the supplier, who confirmed that the medication had arrived on Friday as agreed. The medication has now been found somewhere in the hotel. As a result, we spent Saturday and Sunday running around to pharmacies and the Inselspital to find a replacement. The medication is vital for our daughter. We wasted more than a day because the hotel dropped the ball.

We booked a room with two twin beds which were comfortable and the room was spacious. The air conditioning was great here since it was during a heat wave in August. The location is perfect—under ten min walk to the city center right across the bridge and directly in front of a tram stop in high made it very easy to use the public transit in Bern (especially since we were given the Bern transit card so all of our public transit through the city was included). The breakfast was fantastic, tons of options and the food was delicious. The only thing that could be better (though not necessarily a deal breaker) is that the bathroom door could be more sturdy since it is a sliding cloudy glass door that makes a bit of noise when closing and doesn’t provide any privacy for noise or light. A regular door would be much better here.
