When booking a hotel in Istanbul (Mercure Istanbul Sikreci) my only selection criteria were Accor Group hotels. I gave up better options (better hotel, compare the price, better localizations) hoping that, even if I paid a bit more, my Platinum status would give me an upgrade and a better room. Instead, I received a standard room with no additional amenities, no coffee machine, nothing beyond the basic setup, to make a difference. I didn’t receive anything beyond what I would have gotten as a guest without Platinum Card, or with a regular, basic one (the blue card). On the day of departure, I was asked to leave the room at 12:00, just like any other guest.

The hotel does not serve wine. Yet, I have bought a bottle of wine to the hotel, the front desk helped me to borrow an opener from other restaurants and helped me to open the bottle. It is recommended hotel to prepare the bottle openers for guests.
