Jo & Joe's is sited within a collection of beautiful houses in the quiet Largo do Boticario. I stayed there for a corporate event and the event infrastructure was ok (although the lack of a door in the convening space meant that music from the bar downstairs sometimes made it harder to hear the speakers). The lodging is disappointing: the cramped shared dorms lacked such basics as handsoap, the metal fixtures were lose, the shower spotty, the toilet required coaxing to flush. A strange spareness with towels meant using the tiny sink required using the bath towel, or nothing. Even the placement of the netted necessaire reflected lack of planning: in the lower bunk, it was placed on the headboard, right where you would rest your back if you wanted to read a bit. The prices advertised behind the reception counter were completely incompatible with the lack of amenities and poor construction of the room. Also, finding the room is a chore: good signalling was replaced by a pointless app that did nothing to help find where you are going to sleep.

The hostel has a good location, the building is historic and the architecture is wonderful. The room had a strong smell of mold.

My biggest regret was not really exploring the property until my last day there. Do many cool things! When I come back I will take advantage of them more.
