We had the best time staying at Santa Teresa Hotel. It was our first time in Rio, so staying at this hotel made our trip so memorable. We ate at the restaurant for dinner which was 10/10, and the breakfasts each morning were also gorgeous. The hotel itself was stunning, our room had a lovely view of the city and the facilities were great (the pool, bard, jacuzzi etc). The spa was also amazing. The main feedback we have is around transparency of added taxes. When we got our final bill which was only for a few items, there was a huge tax included (around $500 AUD) which we weren't aware of. More comms about this would've been good. Otherwise I highly recommend.

Hotel room was good, but sacrificed practicality eg space for suitcases, and clothes storage for adding character furniture and ornaments. Hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was average and very expensive. Good location.

Bad booking experience and the rooms and property were definitely dated, which was fine given the history of the property, but I just felt the entire time that the staff was snobby and judgmental. Food was also bad. I reached out to the hotel to book our rooms for a wedding about nine months in advance and when they told me it was 100% non refundable, I said I needed a little bit of time. A couple of months later, when I reached back out as I had secured childcare, they were very slow to respond and then ended up assigning me a room that was $100 more per night than my original. They said the difference in rooms was a tub. I didn’t need a tub, but I needed a place to stay, so we just booked it. We paid significantly more than the hotel charges that time of year, which just felt so dishonest - like a money grab. But we wanted to stay with the wedding party, so we were beholden to their prices. When I arrived, they had assigned me a room with no tub. I asked about it and they said they upgraded me from the tub room for no charge to a room with a balcony. I also did not need a balcony. In fact, the balcony was an extreme annoyance because in order to get any light in the room I had to open two sets of these strange accordion doors that were at least 100 years old. I had to call the desk at one point to help me close them because I was worried I was going to break them. We ate breakfast twice and it was pretty bad. The cappuccinos were just espresso and milk, not steamed. The options on the buffet were all carbs then the food for order was disappointing. We also ordered lunch once at the pool and it was so bad - not sure how they messed up a Cesar salad that bad. It was really hot when we stayed and we couldn’t want to hop into the pool…but it was actually so hot in the pool that it was disgusting. Can’t imagine what the pool feels like there in summer. All in all, would not recommend this pretentious and sub par hotel.

The room was very comfortable, but unfortunately there was very little storage space for clothes. One half of the wardrobe housed the safe and fridge, while the other half contained the ironing board and iron. The bottom shelf was also used by housekeeping to store bed linen. There was no other available space offered. The bathroom similarly had very limited space for storing personal toiletries. Overall, additional cupboard, drawer and bathroom storage would have made the room much more practical and comfortable. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful.

Bear in mind that I am a South African and my husband is German. We are wandering merrily and out of nowhere a young guy on a motorcycle rides onto the pavement and tries to grab my cellphone from my hand and then tries to grab my husband’s hand away from striking him. It really shook us up and we did read about this but got really complacent in Santa Teresa. The Santa Teresa Hotel is beautiful and a little haven for solitude and walking around and enjoying your space. Most importantly the staff and the General Manager Sophie Barbara is an absolute gem. My husband picked up a vomiting bug and she was super helpful in ensuring his wellbeing. We will definitely be back when back in Rio de Janeiro. Thank you Santa Teresa Hotel Team for a fabulous stay. Our family absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, every member of the staff was warm, friendly, and genuinely eager to help. The service was exceptional throughout our stay, and it felt like everyone took pride in making sure guests were comfortable and well cared for. The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully maintained, and the beds were some of the most comfortable we’ve slept in while traveling. The food was excellent, and the views from the pool are simply incredible—it’s hard to imagine a better place to relax and take in Rio. What stood out most, though, was the level of care and hospitality. During our stay, our daughter became sick, and the concierge team went above and beyond to help us get the medical attention and medicine she needed. Their kindness and willingness to help during a stressful situation meant a great deal to our family. More than anything, we loved the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the hotel. It has all the charm and character you hope for in a boutique property while still delivering outstanding service and comfort. We would gladly stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rio.
