Do not have a room close to the lift

Two problems A one-off problem, which I hope doesn't happen every night, and a real recurring problem. The one-off problem is the noise of people in the common areas of the hotel. The room doors are poorly soundproofed and jet-lagged tourists talk loudly in the corridors at night. And I'm not talking about the fire alarm that went off at 1.40am for 6 minutes to wake you up in the middle of the night (no apology from reception the next day when you checked out). The recurring problem is the maintenance of the lift: the guide rails squeak between the 1st and 2nd floors. It's unbearable for your ears each time you go up and down. Frankly, it's not normal. And it's annoying when you sound like a Martian at reception in the morning, announcing the problem even though we can hear the noise. Don't choose a room close to the lift or near the street. Easier said than done if no vacancy.

This was a surprise tip for my family to visit the Louvre. We booked friends and family heartist booking an arrived at the hotel past 23.30( hotel inform of late check in prior to arrival), We we were checked in the booked hotel but offered a room in another hotel accross the street, which was fine. Upon entering the room, we found that is was uncleaned with unmade bed, used towels on the bathroom floor, and rubbish from previously stayed guest still in room. We proceeded to recpetion to inform them . The only explaiantion given is that we were givn the biggest room available for a family which is not usually sold to guests and ocupied by the hotel manager. No other form of apology, a welcome drinketc was offered. Upon enquiring we were told that the receptionist would seek approval from the manager in the morning offer a discout on the room, and/or to include breakfast . There was no follow up the next morning and we felt awkward to insist further. Having worked for Accor in the UK for 14 years and stayed a few hotels across Europe , I was particularly disappointed and embarrased to my family as we have always treated our fellow heartist colleagues with the same passion as we do with our guests. going over and above to make their stay pleasant and comfortable. The only positives I can add is that the lovely gentleman on duty, ofered to clean the room, while we walked the streets to find a place to eat past midnight, and that the hotel's saving grace is perhaps the location close to the main train stations.
