I have mixed feelings about my experience at this Fairmont Hotel because the location is excellent located literally outside the Haram inside the clock tower and because it's got a dedicated entry/exit access for cars which makes the drop/off and pick-up super smooth. The bellmen receiving us when we arrived were very nice and friendly. The check-in experience with the agent at the reception counter was disappointing and upsetting because he treated us so poorly without speaking a single word to us and even carelessly tossed our passports on the counter after he was done with them. When I asked him for information about the breakfast location and the prayer area and if the check-out time was changed to 1 pm, he coldly replied that all information is written in the card and confirmed that check-out is set for 1 pm. The room itself was nice and clean and the breakfast was good. The morning of our departure, we received a call from the reception at 6:30 am to tell me that there is an outstanding payment pending and when I said that I will pay it upon checking out, the agent replied that he could come up immediately to my room to collect the payment rather than waiting until check-out which I found very desperate and unprofessional. After finishing the Dhuhr prayer, we went back to our room to take our luggage but were surprised to find our cards were no longer working even though it was still 12:45 pm. I went down to the reception floor and approached the agent whose name is Khaled Al Maliky about the problem, but he said it was already about 1 pm and that the cards are not supposed to be working. I pressed him and explained that the check-in agent assured us he took care of updating the check-out time to 1 pm. So he took our room information and instead of updating the cards, he told me there is an outstanding payment on the room. I explained to him that I want to get my luggage from the room before checking out after which he asked me to assure him I will come back after getting the luggage and not just leave. At that point, I angrily told him I will stay with him at the counter and will get my wife to go grab the luggage but he said that was not necessary and just updated the cards. After getting our luggage, I asked Khaled to settle the outstanding amount and after the payment and check-out were completed, he asked me about how my experience was at the hotel. I explained to him all the details in this review and I told him it is not of Fairmont's caliber to treat its guests in this poor manner and to keep bugging them about the payment especially that I put my card information when I booked the room. I asked him to give me the name of the check-in agent so I could file a complaint but he refused to share it with me and promised that he will take care of the complaint himself and would provide me with an update via email. He apologized for the poor experience and promised to give a free upgrade on my next visit. While I appreciated his goodwill gesture, I was deeply frustrated and disappointed when I received his email which only contained the free upgrade without any information about the complaint he promised to share with the management on my behalf and what or how the check-in agent was dealt with.
