Me and my grandmother booked a midweek at Mercure Bucharest Unirii. We have stayed at a Mercure before and never had any problems. We had paid for our stay in advance. When we arrived, we were shocked, the hotel had no "walls" and was surrounded by scaffolding. Fortunately, everything was in order inside. When we checked in, the receptionist informed us that the hotel had changed to a new payment system, so the payment might be refunded. In order to exempt the hotel from possible outstanding receipts, I paid the hotel double, so that they could use the reservation on my credit card if the money was to be refunded. (Even more money than the initial booking value because of possible use of the minibar) Our room was spacious enough for the two of us and we were satisfied. However, one of the cleaning staff was extremely unprofessional, she came in calling while we were still in the room. Once she just entered the room without knocking while we were still in bed. (She was very early). When I checked out, I was refunded the reservation on my credit card as the payment went through on their system anyway. Afterwards I received an email from the Front Office manager Mr. Gherca saying "I kindly ask you to check your balance and if so , please complete the form attached in order for us to make the payment." No offence, but who sends their credit card details by email these days? As far as I know, most people are aware of the fact that you should never send credit card details by e-mail because of Internet fraud. Why do they ask for my credit card details at all if it turns out that they just kept them? (Based on my statements where they tried to withdraw the money from my account 18 times). I use a debit credit card to prevent this kind of unsolicited debiting. As we wanted to book another hotel for the end of January, we noticed that my identification number at Accor was blocked. Shameful, without any communication to me. I was prepared to pay nicely, even the extra deposit shows this. No, I will not pay by sending my credit card details in an email. The way of handling finances within Mercure Bucharest Unirii is downright scandalous.

For this reason I called you several times, I wrote also one email to explain the situation without any answer from your side. After that I tried to block the amount indeed. I think it was a good time to answer at email or call me when you noticed that. We are working every day with credit card by email protected by CISCO and there was no problems. The conclusion is you stayed for free for five nights. Regarding the membership card we didn’t do anything. After checking, I saw that your status is now Silver. I stayed 3 nights in a cold room (16 degree). I informed the client desk and they never managed to rezolve it. I understood that they simply turn off the heater to reduce the electricity expense because the hotel was not full. This is unacceptable for a hotel from Accor group. Local practice not adapted to a high value international brand!

The location is good but the hotel needs better maintenance (air conditioning did not work properly, shower heads did not work properly etc). Breakfast is fine but coffee needs an upgrade. Overall fair value to money

The shower was leaking and the carpet outside and the toilet was wet. The curtains didn't close fully so I couldn't see properly because the sunlight kept coming into the room. I wasn't offered a welcome drink because there's no bar at this hotel which apparently is four stars! There is no milk for coffee and the lady at reception is highly unhelpful and rude. If I wasn't a loyalty card holder I would've cancelled my trip and stayed in an Airbnb instead.

I don't know who gave this hotel four stars. My shower was leaking, no welcome drink - they offered my water out of the mini bar, no milk for coffee and the lady at reception was quite unhelpful. If I wasn't a 'loyal' customer, I would have asked for a refund. The curtains would not close fully so I couldn't sleep properly and hotel staff were unhelpful.

Although the hotel seems to be under renovation/refurbishing in some parts, our stay was really relaxing. Cozy beds, well equipped bathrooms, spotless cleaning, quiet. Kind staff. Free private parking was much appreciated. Good location - walking distance to Old Town and river's bank restaurants.
