Our stay at the Ibis Budget hotel in Blankenberge was very disappointing. The room we were assigned, had several parts of the furniture that were broken. At night, when we were ready to go to bed, we discovered that there was a patch on the sheets that smelled really badly (like urine). Probably someone had wet the bed the night before and whereas the sheets had been changed, the smell had soaked into the mattress protector and came through. I could not reach anyone at the reception of the neighbouring Mercure hotel, where I had been directed; I kept calling for over half an hour and no answer. I then had to leave my two small children alone in the room to go to reception; the people there were very friendly and told me they would bring fresh sheets. However, I had to wait another 45 minutes for these; it was past 22h and I then told my children to get dressed so that we could leave with the last train home. Just then, the sheets arrived and we stayed. But it was horrible.

Our room was spotless, had a comfortable bed and a compact but well designed shower room, and we felt it was fine as a budget option. We were able to use the swimming pool in the Mercure hotel next door, and enjoyed our welcome drink in the bar there. The staff at the Mercure were great and really helpful. The location couldn't be better - right next to the railway station and Coast Tram stop and a short walk to the centre of town and the beach. Blankenberge is a great place to visit and we would happily return. Overall, a really good budget hotel that exceeded our expectations.
