As always, a very warm welcome. The hotel is a bit down at heel and needs a renovation - peeling paint in the room, cracked tiles in the bathroom and rather outdated fittings in the room. But the room and bathroom were very clean. The breakfast was good. It was a shame that one could only buy beer from the bar and that there was no wine available.

We felt we were an encumbrance. The male member of staff on Reception on arrival was almost hostile, making us feel we were being nothing more than a nuisance. He seemed to insist on taking full payment at check in. He was clearly annoyed when he realised we had two dogs ( which we believe we had notified when we booked into the Luce). Also was less than pleased when we asked for rooms on the ground floor after he had checked us in on the second floor and had unapologetically informed us that there was no lift. I am 79 with breathing difficulties, my wife is 73. He declined to provide me with an invoice until I had paid the animal supplement. I decided to do this in the morning when I would not have to deal with this man. The rooms were comfortable although the bathrooms were showing signs of wear. I slept in 003 and was kept awake until very late by noise in the adjacent room In the morning, the lady on duty at reception was not very friendly. I think the only words she spoke to me were “seize euros” when I went to pay the animal supplement. For the record, we had three mugs of tea and four gluten free rolls between us for breakfast. Nothing else was available, for example fruit . We had reminded the Luce hotel when we reserved rooms that we are coeliacs - which they said they were aware from our previous stays. We don’t know whether this was passed on We won’t be staying at the Chartres Styles again- such a contrast from the Luce that we know well and love. Sorry to have to write bad news but I have to speak openly. Bob P.

The hotel was easily found and convenient for access to Chartres centre. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and pleasant and all safety rules were being observed. Our biggest surprise was the excellent selection available for our breakfast and the quality. Good bread is hard to find in France these days and Ibis had 3!!

Check-in OK, but at 6.00pm when we arrived, the first floor corridor was still strewn with cleaning gear and bed/bathroom linen - not inviting. Breakfast offering not inviting and staff not very welcoming.

A bit tired

The whole of this IBIS Styles does not reflect the "Styles" idea of one step up from the IBIS Budget hotels. Both the interior and exterior areas of the hotel seem tired and run down. In our room, the bathroom tiles had been painted over in a previous makeover, and the paint was peeling off. The sealant round the bottom of the shower basin had black edges (presumably mould.) Even with 4 floors, there was no lift. Outside the paved area is in serious need of weeding.

Although the hotel is well situated, it is badly in need of a makeover. In our room, the tiles in the bathroom had been painted over in a previous makeover and the paint was peeling off, plus the seal around the base of the shower was mouldy and peeling. The room was clean, but the general feel of the hotel is that it needs some attention.
