We are due to stay at the Sofitel Nusa Dua and attempted to book directly via the hotel’s website. The website would not accept payment, so I contacted Accor Reservations, as Sofitel is an Accor-managed property. Accor confirmed the total room rate in AUD and guaranteed that price for 24 hours. Accor then contacted the hotel directly, after which the hotel emailed me a payment link. The link did not display or allow confirmation of the charge amount; it only allowed entry of credit card details. I immediately emailed the hotel advising that the link did not show the agreed amount and restated the exact AUD figure confirmed by Accor. No response was received. Relying on Accor’s written price guarantee, I proceeded to enter my card details via the link. Upon reviewing my account, I discovered that an additional AUD $388.00 had been charged above the agreed amount. When queried, the hotel advised that the additional charge related to currency conversion. I advised the hotel that this charge had not been disclosed or authorised prior to being applied. The hotel refused any refund, room credit, or adjustment and responded only by providing a copy-and-paste extract of its terms and conditions. It is unacceptable for a hotel to agree to a rate in AUD, confirm a specific total (including providing the equivalent IDR amount), and then unilaterally apply a currency conversion surcharge without prior disclosure or consent. Since this occurred, I have reviewed multiple public complaints describing similar conduct at this property, including unauthorised additional charges and refusal to provide refunds or remediation. We sought to cancel the booking but were unable to do so without forfeiting the full room fee (11 nights). As a result of this experience, we have lost confidence in the property and will not be leaving a credit card on file for incidentals during our stay. I strongly caution others against proceeding with payment via any link that does not clearly display and require confirmation of the exact amount to be charged.

Sofitel Nusa Dua is a beautiful property well maintained with amazing staff. Service is exceptional across the board. All staff are well trained and super polite. To start off we had a great welcome and allowed an early check in. A beautiful touch with lovely cakes on the table as we entered the room as we were celebrating our birthday and anniversary. We availed off our Accor benefits which was great. We also attended the drinks and canapés for Accor members which was a lovely touch with a nice traditional performance. The pool is amazing and the pool bar even better during the happy hours. If you are looking for a place to relax this is the place . They have quite a few activities organised for guests. In terms of restaurants, the breakfast was splendid, what a spread, one of the best I have seen. The bar and restaurant on the beach is good but Cucina was disappointing, I’m hoping it was a one off. For an Italian restaurant to get a pizza wrong is non negotiable, it was like the dough was not proofed or risen enough and you could taste that in the base as you took a bite. Overall we loved our stay and will be back.
