Super friendly staff, great pool and bar area, good breakfast. Felt very safe here. Only minor downside was door cards which kept failing.

Room is very clean, comfortable bed, Housekeeping does a great job. We had breakfast included and have requested to Front Desk staff who confirmed next day early morning it will be ready to pick from reception as we had tour booked. I insisted them to write my room number. Next morning the two Receptionist told us there was no request and showed us postit pad with 2 different room number mentioned (one room was my adjacent) .They pretty much accused that I must have forgotten to tell the receptionist last night (as if I am lying for a $20 breakfast). Their gesture & response pretty much spoiled our day. Both could have atleast offered a banana or sandwich which we can see was displayed in the cabinet but their response was you should have told the receptionist. Being a Senior executive in Hotel industry in Australia, we undertsand things can be forgotten however accusing the guest and not offering any assistance is not acceptable for an Accor hotel of this level.

As our flight arrived mid morning into Santiago, we were thrilled to be able to check in early. That was the end of our luck! Feeling good and thinking everything was in our favour we headed outside for some lunch. As we walked to the area and street right of the hotel, my husband said he thought the area felt unsafe. I thought he was being paranoid and we kept going. Walking back after lunch, within metres of the hotel, my necklace was grabbed from around my neck! Shaken, I returned to the hotel to then be told by the receptionist that the previous day 2 guests had been robbed in similar style, one of a necklace and the other a bracelet. My necklace was insignificant looking and having worn it for 30 years around the world without incident, I wouldn't have thought it would attract a thief. The day after the theft, I met other tourists on a trip who told me they were told by their hotel concierge not to wear ANY jewellery at all, anywhere in Santiago. I later relayed this to the same receptionist as a suggestion that they should be doing the same when the hotel is obviously in an unsafe area. He lied, and told me that at check-in all guests are informed not to wear jewellery. He hadn't mentioned this the previous day! I stated that this statement wasn't true and he didn't care at all. He lacked any empathy and just wanted me to walk away so he could continue chatting with fellow employees. Essentially this theft tainted our whole few days in Santiago and particularly of the hotel. Even after wearing nothing to catch attention, we were frightened to walk anywhere and had to pay for tours which we wouldn't normally do. As we alighted from the Hop On/Hop Off bus late afternoon one day, the guide on the bus warned us to be careful as the area was dangerous. She lived in the area and had been held up at knifepoint and had her phone stolen. The hotel isn't responsible for the theft of my necklace, but they are responsible for not warning guests or having any protocol on how to assist if they are the victim of crime. Couldn't wait to get out of the place!

Well located, there's a metro station nearby and plenty historical buildings in the blocks around it. The restaurant and bar where awesome with delicious dishes and a lounge to enjoy them.

Mercure Centro is literally central to the iconic landmarks of Santiago, directly opposite the national library and Santa Lucia park and metro, and within a comfortable walking distance to cafes near and at Bellavista. What was appealing was the warmth and hospitality of the staff, in helping us plan our day tours and also special tour requests. Information and arrangements delivered promptly and attentively. Many thanks to Ray for your support of our group here. I was very appreciative of the lengths to which Ray went through to propose a specific wine tour that I liked. Please do consult the front desk for tips and suggestions, particularly for day trips out of Santiago. Consult them also for the dos and don’ts of where to go explore within Santiago, particularly also areas to avoid. In all a pleasant stay. Very nice breakfast selection from Amaranto restaurant within the hotel.
