We booked a room for 4 (“executive double with sofa bed”) as we needed a twin room and none available. On arrival we were told the sofa bed was only for children but they would make an exception. The bed was made up with sheets and a pillow only - I asked for a duvet or blanket and was told one would be delivered. The outside temp was 2 degrees Celsius and the room was freezing. The heating either wasn’t working or was set so low it didn’t improve but most other rooms were having the same complaint. NO blanket or duvet was delivered and I had to sleep with a T shirt on and a dressing gown and coat on top of the bed. It was awful. Additionally when we left luggage on arrival at 4pm I was asked to put one bag on top of the other so they only had to give one label. Half an hour later when I came back not only was my luggage was still outside in the reception area - it had fallen over which had damaged a lotion inside the bag which went over some of my things. The carpet in the room was heavily stained as was the corridor carpet. I have stayed in many Novotel hotels and indeed dozens in the Accor chain but this was by a very long way the worst. As someone who travels around 50% of the year I can honestly say this hotel experience was definitely one of the worst.

The quality has slipped further down with each stay

It was OK. Staff were lovely. Great having the pool table. Room a bit tired with stained carpets. Kettle but no black tea bags or milk which was disappointing. Air con not working and room smelt a bit of seared meat, presumably from the kitchen
