As a family that frequently stay at ibis hotels, in general we are almost always either very happy or at least satisfied with our stay. However ibis budget Aachen City had been an exception to that rule. This was by far the worst ibis we visited. The room: It was not clean at all. The floor was dirty (was not vacuumed at all, not only dust but there were also bits and pieces of dead bugs), the toilet was dirty, the shower was dirty and the drain was half way clogged. The bed sheets had stains and the sheet for the additional bed was just thrown on the bed, we had to put it on ourselves. Parking - well no parking: Although it is listed that the hotel has parking, the hotel does not have parking. The park house is closed and it does not look temporary. The whole area is full with drug users, alcoholics, homeless etc and they occupy the entrance to the parking which is completely closed and covered by barricades. The reception told us to go to a private parking which costs 18EUR for 24h which is 3-5min walk away. The reception: The reception is only open for certain times of the day, so it is not easy to find someone for help in case you need something. Also the entrance door to the hotel is always open, so technically anybody can walk in. Which also does not create a safe feeling The breakfast: Way overpriced with very limited options. The only reason I give 2 and not 1 as a rating is the standard ibis budget room setup which we could find at this location as well. Unfortunately that was the only thing that was on par with what we would consider as ibis

No security

There is no security. The front door stays open. I walked in once finding strangers in the hall way that were not guests. And the next day i found a drug addict preparing his drug in the hall way. This is possible because the front door is not secured. Even after i complained about this. Also i never met a front desk employee that i could report this to. The rooms dont have a direct number you can contact either. First time i placed a chair in front of my room door. I reported this through email but got no reply

Had a little trouble checking into the room with the self-check in but other than that everything was very nice. The room was very clean and spacious especially for how cheap it was and well located.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean, quiet and fulfilled our requirements for beds, a shower, wash basin and a toilet. I was particularly pleased about the parking, a secure multi-storey right by the hotel, and the cost of parking, which was a very reasonable 45 € for three nights, which is not unreasonable for Aachen. Within a couple of minutes walk we were right in the centre, enjoying all Aachen has to offer. Will definitely consider staying there again!
