Good location, spacious room. It was a pity that the restaurant was closed during our stay but we can easily find a lot of restaurants within walking distance. The staff are all very friendly that made us feel welcomed.

Arrived and there was no one at the counter, the person come down after dealing with an issue with another customer. Stopped that and then checked me in. When I went up to go into my room my card did not work, return downstairs and again no one there. he returned after looking for something for another guest while original issue guest still waiting to be delt with. Then while i was waiting another person entered looking for a job, he fixed my card then delt with the person looking for a job, while original guest was still left waiting. team member looked frunpy, untucked shirt and seemed to be very overwhelmed. However, was polite and friendly enough to everyone.

We stayed for 2 nights. Reception were friendly and welcoming, rooms were big and bed comfortable, perfect for us and our 2 kids. Great location, just a few minutes to the esplanade. The only downside is being located on a busyish road over a weekend, there was a lot of noise coming into our ground floor room (we have previously stayed in a room on the first floor and don't remember hearing as much here). The pool was fantastic. We will stay again!

There were lots of ants at the sink and the headboard area. I spoke to reception—most of the ants have been killed, but there are still some on the ground, along with some dead bodies

The Mercure Cairns is very well located but still feels like it's still placed in a nice, quiet area back off the main raod. Room was very interesting, small downstairs living area with bedroom and bathroom located upstairs made for a novel stay and I really enjoyed having a small balcony area. I was underwhelmed by the reception, the lady who checked me in did so in complete silence, made no attempt at conversation and seemed to be yawning constantly, which demonstrated an alarming lack of professionalism. The process to check in was slow and I was just handed by pass, again no explanation of the hotel or facilities on offer, it was a very average experience. I would have rated by overall stay a 2 out of ten but the room saved the experience!
