Average and not for a business stay

I booked for a business event I was attending. First impressions were pretty good. The lobby area is bright and spacious, however I think this sets false expectations for the hotel. The first room my colleague and I were allocated wasn't great, very dark on the ground floor. The staff were very good and managed to move us. The next room I got was very similar but higher up, so had some light. The rooms were clean but were very basic. Money had obviously been spent on the main room but the bathrooms still look like they were built in the late 80's and hadn't been touched. The balcony door barely worked, sliding it was an effort and noisy. There was nothing in the mini bar (other than some milk) and neither my colleague or I had any water in the room (other than tap water) for the duration of our stay. There is obviously a lack in consistent service delivery as other industry colleagues talked about their mini bar and the cartons of water. Given that it's a resort hotel, a lot of kids. So I wouldn't recommend this for a business stay. Most of the staff seemed friendly enough but overall I'd say the property was tired and wasn't to the usual standard that I would expect for a Novotel. It certainly isn't a 4.5 star hotel like they suggest. I'd go more with 3 star. I can say this with some authority, having worked in the travel industry for over 20 years and stayed at many Accor hotels over that time.
