Small room with no aircon and a window that opens to a road, so ventilation on a hot night was poor

Welcomed on arrival. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel both close to the port and close to the historic town. I would stay here again.

When I arrived I had a problem opening the door of my room and had to ask one of the receptionists. she told me to put the card in the reader which was impossible and not correct. I went down again and another receptionist came up to help open the door which was difficult for her. Then the door would not close properly and I had to ask her to come again and after a struggle she managed to close the door and said it needed oiling. It continued to be very difficult to open and close. Then I noticed a towel under the toilet and I went down again to tell the receptionist. She said it was only a slight leak and that it should not be a problem. I was very tired and fell asleep at 21h00 and when I woke up I wanted to have a shower and undressed and went to the shower room and found the floor was all wet from the water from the toilet. if I had been dressed and less tired and it had been earlier I would have asked to change my room. it was very unpleasant having water from the toilet all over the floor and the smell was not good. I did not want to stay and have breakfast and I left the hotel at around 07h00. There was a very helpful man on reception in the early morning and he was by far the best of the hotel personnel with whom I spoke during my short stay.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Saint Malo, in particular the staff were very helpful and friendly However of the two rooms were were allocated for our stay, one of the rooms initially allocated had a plumbing problem with the basin so we had to move rooms - and during our stay the second room had a similar problem but as we were due to check out later that morning we simply advised the hotel staff of the problem ahead of the next guests staying Also whilst the breakfast was very good in terms of quality and choice/variety of items on both mornings of our stay we noticed chipped plates and mugs, with a number of the mugs still being dirty but on the 'clean/to be used' shelf
