We arrived at the hotel at 3 PM with a small child, only to be told the room wasn’t ready and we’d have to wait another half hour. No apology, no compensation, nothing was offered to make up for it — and this was in 35°C heat outside. At 11 PM the fire alarm went off, forcing everyone to evacuate and wait outside in the middle of the night. The hotel itself is old and badly in need of renovation. There were a lot of strange, exposed wires in the room. Housekeeping was poor and, on top of that, extremely noisy, during the day it was nearly impossible to get any rest with a young child because of how loud the cleaning staff were.

Unfortunately it was like drawing teeth trying to get any information or assistance from the 2 young female receptionists at the hotel in the early evenings. The hotel was OK but lots of small problems - refillable water bottle provided for use with water fountain had dregs of water in it and smelt strongly of mould, air conditioning didn't work well, not possible to open window independently, window in my room left open for much of the day with the blinds open after I'd asked for the window to be opened at night although I'd requested that it be closed promptly -- so the room was very hot when I returned from work. (When I pointed this out to reception in the hope of saving someone else the same problem, the receptionist simply denied point blank - three times - that anyone had been in my room. I particularly dislike being called a liar. Blankly contradicting guests repeatedly - especially if you don't know the facts - is a bad look...And I know that the window had at some point been re-closed during the day by someone with a key!) The night porter was however very helpful and opened the window for me at night when the air conditioning wasn't working properly.
