Very bad service, old room, breakfast was low level quality

That was our first just fair experience with a Novotel across many years. The standard is not one of a 4 stars hotel, small breakfast area and limited breakfast choice for a 4 stars booking, mostly deriving from non-fresh products. Bread was defrosted and pancake/gaufres were not fresh. On arrival, there was a board game with the scope of winning a drink or snack. My son wanted to try it, but he was not given the opportunity by the staff as we are already member of the accord hotel, and the game was for those who aren't. One of the elevators was not working the first day, and we had a power cut in our room. We were told that it might be a court circuit from the micro-wave/frigidaire area, and this area stayed disconnected until the end of our stay. The hotel is situated near public transports but in a not safe area in the evening. The place is clean however and restaurant staff are nice. Just disappointed that our investment in 3 hotel nights to see the sparkle in my children's eyes (the same as in other novotels we booked in Madrid...) was not worth it this time :(

Another elevator, as well as stair access, remained available throughout your stay. We also apologize for the inconvenience caused by the power issue in your room; our technical team worked to isolate the problem for safety reasons. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel and the kindness of our restaurant staff. Nevertheless, we regret that your overall experience did not reflect the level of quality and joy you have come to expect from Novotel.
