Well located, great parking, reasonable stay

Warmly welcomed and our room was on the second floor at the end of the corridor and overlooking the car park and car park security gate. Room was reasonably clean and comfortable - few cobwebs and hairs in the bathroom area on arrival. Only one spare pillow provided - one towel provided per person and a small towel/bath mat. Soap dispenser above sink and in shower well stocked. Shower was good, with good water pressure. Really liked the modular style of bathroom. We were given option to have room serviced daily or alternate days as we were staying for 6 nights. We opted for alternate days. Unfortunately this didn't happen as planned from the mid point of our stay. The floor was never vacuumed the whole week. And despite leaving a "please service" card hanging on the door, we had to request clean towels and replenishment of toilet roll towards the end of our stay. The cleaning staff have their work cut out trying to deal with large coach parties arriving and staying a few nights and the turnover of rooms and this clearly impacts on other guests who are not part of those groups. That was also a major problem in the adjoining restaurant. We were offered the chance to book dinner on the night we arrived, which we did - but we wanted options to eat elsewhere during the week. So were told we could ask each day. But from then on each day there was a coach party in and we were told the restaurant was therefore full. We were able to just walk in and get a table twice (at the receptionist's suggestion) but gave up later on and ate elsewhere. We avoided booking breakfast there for the same reason. Also - if your room is near the car park gate then we would advise ear plugs. The gate isn't massively noisy, but the repeated closing and opening after 11pm can get a bit annoying and jerked us awake on the first two nights, before we resorted to ear plugs. The security for your car is very welcome though, so it is an easy trade off. Just something to be aware of. The ease of car parking is also very welcome. The reception staff and restaurant staff generally are very professional and pleasant - some more than others. They were helpful when we had a query about local public transport. On checking out and paying our bill we were not asked about our stay - which was disappointing. Overall we had a very acceptable stay. The room was well appointed and fair value for the price. As a base for touring around that part of Normandy, it was handily close to road links - and a level walk into the centre of Caen (or a short bus ride) if you don't want to use the car. It is under a flight path for the local airport, but it is executive jet size, nothing massive. The sound proofing from the windows being closed is impressive! The room heating is simple and easy to understand.
