Stayed 2 nights in Caen at Hôtel Mercure Caen Centre Port de Plaisance and it was excellent- especially the larger- for France- rooms, massive breakfast, and great central location on the canal downtown.

The room was pleasant but small and the one window was tiny room 340. First night house keeping missed us, clean towels and an apology was given by staff. I was pver charged for breakfast ie charged for everyday we stayed rather than the days we took breakfast. Thiscwas charged to my credit card before given chance to check and now i wait for a refund. The staff were very good judt a bit more care. The guy working the bar was excellent and deserves praise.

The entrance to Mercure is being renovated so entrance is from the neighbouring Ibis and breakfast is there too although it is Mercure quality. Our room was fine with view of the port but was very dark making reading difficult. I tripped and broke my arm on the street. Staff were extremely helpful talking us through how to access hospital and calling a taxi
