I had one of the worst hotel booking experiences I’ve ever had with Agoda and Ibis Budget. I made a same-day booking, assuming that meant I could check in immediately after arriving at the airport. However, when I arrived at the hotel, the receptionist informed me that my booking with Agoda was for 22–23 June instead of 21–22 June. I believe this happened because I made the booking shortly after midnight, and Agoda automatically shifted it to the next day without making it clear. I asked the receptionist if the booking dates could simply be changed, but I was told to contact Agoda. Unfortunately, Agoda’s customer service was impossible to reach. When I called and entered my booking ID, their automated system didn’t even recognize it and disconnected the call. It was incredibly frustrating because all I needed was a place to rest for the night after my flight. I then asked if an early check-in would be possible, but the answer was simply “no,” with no effort to offer any alternative solution. Since I had no other option, I booked another room directly through the hotel. The receptionist offered me a room for $175, which seemed to be one of the most expensive available. The disappointment didn’t end there. The room was on the third floor with no elevator, so I had to carry my heavy luggage up several flights of stairs after an exhausting journey. When I finally entered the room, I found mold on the shower heater and mold on the lamps, making it feel poorly maintained and not properly cleaned. Considering I ended up paying $145 for the unusable Agoda booking plus another $175 for a second booking, I feel like I wasted over $300 for what was supposed to be a “budget” hotel. In hindsight, I should have simply walked to another nearby airport hotel. This experience was extremely disappointing. Agoda’s customer service was unreachable, and the hotel showed very little flexibility or empathy in helping resolve a simple booking issue. I will not be booking with Agoda or Ibis Budget again. Customer service: 0/10.
