Upon walking into the hotel, you were first greeted with this smell that is not pleasant at all, whilst there is workmen trying to fix some patch in the roof. It doesn’t sit well while walking into a very smelly for you of a hotel. My room was not ready when I checked in even though I’m a gold member and when I finally got into my room, it was like a fridge. You could not adjust the air conditioner and I had to ring up and someone reset the temperature for me. I think if you were going to sell a hotel room I guess you’ll be able to adjust the temperature to how they like and not have staff have to enter your hotel to try and fix it or call up to adjust your temperature. The room’s are noisy and I don’t believe the area is very nicely located compared to other ibis in the area.

I'm leaving the title in in the hope it will encourage Ibis / Accor to accelerate smell damage control. The lobby and lifts smelt revolting - at first I thought it could be the fish tank, but then lovely reception staff told me it was a buildup of rubbish in the vacant site next door, which shares the same aircon intake. The room was fine, but had no individual temperature control, so each time I wanted to change it I had to call Reception to alter it - not ideal at nighttime when trying to get comfortable! Also, two lifts struggled with guests, especially when one was being used as a service lift when we checked in. Service was friendly and efficient, and a nice breakfast with a good view across the intersection. Sort the smell and aircon, and I'd stay again as it's good value for money. Thanks.

The room was generally clean and tidy. However, the reception smelled of sewage, covered over by a rather revolting air freshener. The bathroom in the room smelled similar, only manageable by covering up the room drain. The gym is minuscule and badly ventilated. Given the cost of the room, I would be ok with all the issues apart from the smell. It was seriously offputting.

Despite a good experience overall, our stay was let down by the room not being vacuumed before we checked in. This was obvious by the hairs and crumbs all over the carpet 😞 The staff at reception did supply us with slippers on request however . . .

First, we rock up and the room is hot. We can’t open the window? Fine we’ll just turn the air con on. The wall control works, we turn it on, select cool and turn the fan on high. Everything you expect to happen, and then we leave for the night to go get some dinner. We get back at 9pm and the room is still a sauna, we’re confused. Okay the room has a censor for the electricity, normal stuff ok. So we just turn the air con back on and as 30 minutes pass we notice the temp of the room HAS NOT changed. After trying to figure out why I gavw the front desk a call… “sorry do to our policy you have to call reception to turn the air on.” And he asks us what we want and I say “19, cool, fan medium or high” and he confirmed back to me this is what he set it at…. Only 10 minutes later we call again because the room is STILL HOT. We ended up calling 3-4 times before someone finally came up to check the air con that was barely blowing any air out, and it was hot. Only for the staff member to fumble with his words and tell us “this is how it is” and finally end with “it’s policy not to have cooling during the winter months” Wow ok. So following this leads to a hot, stuffy stay where there was no need for the blankets. The room was incredibly uncomfortable from the lack of air. And then to top it all off the soundproofing is non existent. We could hear doors slamming, neighbours coughing, microwaves going off, and even a phone ringing non stop. The worst, most uncomfortable hotel stay of my life. And unfortunately it had to fall during Sydney Marathon weekend which means the prices were inflated to a ridiculous amount of $1300 for two nights!

Stayed at the Ibis Sydney World Square for a business trip for 4 nights. Was the first time I had stayed at the hotel. Was assigned a room on the 16th floor that was basic but satifactory for a short stay. Hotel is fairly centrally located across Pitt St from World Square shopping with plenty of food and entertainment near by. The part of Pitt St is located in is very run down with abandoned buildings and homeless sleeping in doorways. I settled into the room to get a good nights sleep as I had travelled on Sunday night to get an early start in the office the next day but was awoken at 2am by fire alarms blasting for 5 minutes. Thinking it was a false alarm stayed in bed until the EVACUATE message then was broadcast over the emergency speakers. Jumped out of bed, put on some shoes and a jumper, and opened the door to exit and was greated by a river of water pouring down the corridor. The person across the hall exited his room soaked from head to toe from the fire sprinklers looking distressed. Made it to the fire escape and walked down the 16 floors to the back alley where I was greated with a waterfall coming off the top of the building. The entire hotel then was evacuated out onto Pitt St where we waited whilst the fire brigade arrived to investigate. With only a single nightshift reception worker on to manage 100 people there was little communication to what was happening. To his credit he couldn't do much with the scale of what was happening. 3.30am the fire brigade told everyone they could return to rooms except levels 15 & 16. Eventually at 4am we were permitted back into our room which was saturated and had to pack up and vacate the room back to reception. Was assigned a new room on the 3rd floor looking over the alley and a concrete wall. Room was run down and not as nice as the one I came from. Next evening I returned to the hotel and requested a new room. Was told none was available but could be moved the next day. No apology or acknowledgement was given to the previous nights disruptions. Next day I packed up again from the 3rd floor and left bags at reception. Returning that evening was moved to the 17th floor. Now, this room was nicer and cleaner than the other rooms and I concluded my final two nights without incident. Now, I know not all problems are preventable but a couple of things that ring alarm bells at this property. 1. Lack of service recovery to guests staying on the impacted floors. I repeatedly had to ask to move rooms when this should have been offered. We had a bad experience and received little sympathy. Have heard nothing from the hotel to follow up. 2. Lack of consistancy in quality of Ibis World Square rooms. Other Ibis hotels I have stayed at offer a consistant standard. This hotel seemed to have discrepancies in the cleanliness and maintenance of rooms across the 3 rooms I stayed in over 4 nights. After this I couldn't recommend this property and will be wary of staying in Ibis properties again.

He contacted Reception to have the temperature in the room changed because it felt hot, and you can’t control the AC from the control in the room, best we were offered was to use the fan option which did nothing. The lack of shower curtain or glass in the shower was extremely inconvenient as the water did not stay within the designated area and the whole bathroom would end up wet, the pull down seat in the shower was also mouldy which was concerning because a lot came off with a hose of the shower. The other issue we had was waking to someone setting off a fire alarm at 2am but being left confused when a fire truck turned up and a group of people exiting the hotel and looking up at the building above us, not knowing what was happening and if maybe we had been forgotten only to be told “false alarm” over the speakers after the fact. It would have been nice to be notified that an alarm was being investigated so we knew not to worry. The staff were accomodating when our 3 year old got sick in the bed and gave us new sheets.

Location is wonderful, close to shops, restaurants, and a supermarket that opens until late night. It's near light rail stations as well. But exactly on that road there are a lot of abandoned shops feels scary seems like places where homeless people stay. The room is decent, there's a microwave which is a great plus point. But the lifts are smelly. Had to hold my breath everytime I go into the lift. Overall I would reccomend the hotel due to its location.
