We stayed just one night as a staycation in Sydney. The rooms are large and clean, and we had a big spa bath. The only down side for me was that the WiFi didn't work.

There was no one in sight except 1 person on reception, being empty the lobby was gloomy and uninviting. Never even saw a cleaner around during our stay. Reception was polite but straight to business and with the exclusion of a smile was not a great first impression or feeling. We ordered room service for dinner, pretty average and the $40 steak was swimming in water with side chips. At breakfast time we were the first to arrive and not acknowledged on entering, we sat down and waited for the waitress to come over. the energy was very flat and once again uninviting. Wearing a mask she may have been smiling but her bored tone of voice and body language indicated she wasn't. The menu option was very small which was understandable and we all ordered scrambled eggs on toast to keep it simple. The meals took 40 minutes to come out, the egg was extremely watery and the sourdough toast had not even been buttered so it was plain toast with watery eggs charged at inflated prices. We guessed that the cook was probably not a trained chef but maybe extra staff called in to help in the kitchen. The atmostphere in the hotel was quite miserable and not because everyone was wearing masks, we had masks on too but we choose to make the best out of the situation and bring energy, our kids delighted in wearing their very own novelty masks around. We visited the maritime museum and were warmly greeted by the staff whom wearing friendly smiles promptly showed us how to register our attendance, informed us of the exhibits and complimented the kids on their fun masks all whilst practicing social distancing. This showed me the atmosphere at the hotel was not due to social distancing rules but in the attitude of the staff who could not care less if we enjoyed our stay/meal, etc.

It was a very eerie experience in that only one member of your staff was visible at any one time (ie on the front desk) and there seemed to be few other guests. It was a pleasant experience in that we could walk to our restaurant booking with friends that night. And we slept quite well afterwards, so the bed and room temperature were comfortable ( which isn’t always our experience when staying at hotels). We liked looking over Hyde Park, and were glad to have chosen that side of the hotel, but the windows were dirty. The bathroom felt shoddy, as our basin was cracked in several places and hadn’t been properly repaired. It really needs replacement. The parking is reasonably priced, bearing in mind there wasn’t Valet service.

I found the hotel very clean in the room at self is quite nice, however I did find the shower A little dirty and felt the need to clean it myself. Housekeeping and room service was very slow.

Location was ideal, I had asked for something special to be organised for the wife as it was our anniversary had no response. Got told on the day that the Australian Defence force was staying but would not be any impact and bar reservation would not be cancelled. We get told on arrival bar reservation was cancelled. Not ideal when everywhere needs a booked. One full and one quarter toilet role was there, you would think the quarter would have been replaced.

Refused a refund twice despite pandemic and Victorian lockdowns

I am a fan of the Pullman Hyde Park. I have been staying there for years. I am absolutely dumbfounded as to why they would continue to refuse refunds to people who are in lockdown in Victoria when borders are closed and we are in stage 4 lockdown. Getting a survey to ask how my stay was when I was only offered the ability to book a new trip up until the 30th of June 2020 is pretty immoral. I have emailed the COO as well as adding this review. People need to understand what companies care for their customers and which don't. For the record, the Playford In Adelaide - also an Accor Hotel - offered me a refund in May.

I had been staying in a pretty basic apartment close by and decided to move to a nice hotel for a few days. The Pullman Is lovely, the rooms are spacious and the staff are extremely helpful. I had an enjoyable stay and ate in their cafe everyday. The hotel room was much cheaper than the apartment and also much nicer.

High Expectations Dissappointing Results

When I stay at a Pullman I have high expectations and the reputation of Pullman Hyde Park gave me confidence that my expectations would be met. However: 1. My initial Impression was check in where there was no assistance with my bags - although the girl was polite. 2. I then moved my car to the car park which was filthy (discarded rubber/surgical gloves; litter takeaway food wrapping all over the place, floor covered in drink or other liquid stains - just an over view). 3. Went to my room and the toilet didn't flush - 2 days t fix with me flushing the toilet with the kettle. 4. Wanted to take a bottle of wine up to my room after dinner. After a couple of days, I found out that they were charging me restaurant prices and if I ordered as room service, the wine was $20 cheaper. On the next night, I asked if I could get the cheaper price if I ordered and took it up with me. The girl enquired and while I was accommodated, I was asked a few times who told me - it felt like an interrogation so they could punish the person. While the room itself was otherwise comfortable and the staff in general were polite - what I just described makes this a poor experience. I get it that the CORONA Virus response means a wound back service and I appreciate the pressure that the team is under to meet requirements for safety. But … I'll leave it at that.

Not quite ready post COVID

We were very excited to have our first weekend away in 3 months, post COVID. Unfortunately the hotel was not quite ready for guests. The bar and restaurant were not open, the cafe was only open from 7am-6pm and the staffing was too low. Whilst it is difficult for hotels to deal with low occupancy post COVID, providing a lower level of service will not encourage guests to stay. Closed services should be advised by email when guests have made a booking, to manage expectations. We had a confirmed dinner booking that was cancelled at 3.30pm because the cafe was not open. We were offered room service or to sit alone in the cafe but we can do that at home. Luckily after making several phone calls we got a booking at Diethnes.
