Overall excellent. Good service, excellent room (except for the bizarre light switches - second Sofitel in a row with unfathomable lights), good location, decent breakfast.

We stayed at the Sofitel during our wedding and overall had a nice, comfortable experience. Guest services did reach out ahead of our stay to ask for my partner’s full name and preferred drink, which we really appreciated. It was also acknowledged again at check-in, which was a thoughtful touch. That said, it didn’t go any further. Based on those questions, I had expected a small gesture in the room, perhaps a handwritten note or something similar to mark the occasion, but there was nothing. It’s not a big issue in the scheme of things, however those are the details that elevate a stay from good to memorable, and what you tend to expect from a five star hotel. A pleasant stay overall, but next time we’re in Melbourne we’ll likely explore other options.
