The location of the Mantra on Russell is great for getting out and about in the city but we had a few issues with our stay. On arrival to check in at 2pm our room was not cleaned. The receptionist actually said 'Oh Shit' when on the phone with housekeeping! He then stood there in silence while he taped away on his computer for roughly 5 mins, not updating us on what was happening before saying he had moved our room. It was fine to be moved but some communication would have been nice. Following entering the room we became aware that our fridge was not working. Despite multiple calls to reception and promises that this will be fixed 3 days later this was still not working. We were forced to be sent multiple buckets of ice and fill the sink in order to keep our refrigerated food and drinks cold. Finally on day 3 a maintenance person came and found the circuit had tripped, it was such a simple solution, I am not sure why it took days on days to be looked at. If these issues had not occurred we would have had a great stay, unfortunately this put a dampener on the situation and reduced our enjoyment.

The room was great. On check in we were given a flyer saying the bar would be open at 4, and you could get burgers, pizza, snitzels, chips. We wanted an early meal before a show, so headed down at 4.15pm. We wanted burgers, the barman said only pizza was available, bad start. But we ordered pizzas. Mine came in reasonable time, we were told my husbands would arrive in a 'couple of minutes'. It took another half an hour. Apart from that the bar was largely unattended. A few other people wandered in, stood at the bar for a few minutes, then wandered out again. The pizzas were adequate, but barely. I don't blame the barman, mabe he was making our pizzas, but it was very poor service. I worked in hospitality for many years in large inner city hotels, I was very surprised by this lack of service. It's either lack of staff, or lack of planning, or lack of supervision.

As short as the stay was, I was very satisfied and comfortable. The dryer was unfortunately very noisy and didn’t dry my clothes completely, but as it done the job well enough for my needs, this wasn’t a deal breaker as I was not there for long. The staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, and delightfully polite.
