My friend and I checked in on Saturday 15 August. That evening, when we returned to our room, we could hear a continuous grinding-like noise occurring every few minutes, with each occurrence lasting approximately 10–15 seconds. This continued for much of the night and made it extremely difficult to sleep. The following morning, the bathroom flooded, with water coming from the shower. We had to use all the towels provided to mop up the floor before going down to reception to report both the flooding and the ongoing noise issue. We were told that someone would inspect the room while we were out shopping and that we should check back with reception afterwards. We returned to the hotel shortly afterwards to drop off our parcels, as we had two theatre bookings on Sunday — one in the afternoon and another in the evening. At that point, we were told that we would be moved to another room. Unfortunately, because of our theatre commitments and the practical difficulties of packing and moving our belongings between the two performances, we were unable to simply vacate the room immediately. The same grinding noise continued throughout Sunday night, resulting in a second night of very little sleep. We reported the issues again when we checked out yesterday. We were offered a complimentary cup of coffee as compensation. Given that we experienced two consecutive nights of severely disturbed sleep, as well as having to deal with a flooded bathroom during our stay, I found this offer wholly inadequate and, frankly, rather insulting. We paid for a hotel stay in the expectation of having a safe, comfortable and peaceful room. Instead, we experienced a significant disruption to our stay and were unable to get a reasonable night's sleep on either night.
