We arrived at the Sofitel at around 1:00am after what had been a very long and stressful night at the Royal Children’s Hospital with our son, Finn. Alex was working at the front desk and assisted us with our check-in. I was initially disappointed when I was told our room had park views rather than a view of the MCG, as I had specifically confirmed an MCG view when making the booking. Alex was extremely helpful and spoke with the manager to see if anything could be done. We completely understood when we were told that, due to how heavily booked the hotel was, there wasn't anything they could change. To our surprise, when we entered our room we discovered that we actually did have a view of the MCG. After the night we had just experienced, it was such a lovely surprise. The person who really made our arrival special, however, was Ed, the porter. Ed helped us with the car and all of our luggage, as we had quite a few extra bags with us. But it wasn't simply the help with our belongings that impressed us it was the genuine warmth and kindness he showed our family. When Eddie heard that we had just come from the hospital with Finn, he immediately showed genuine concern and asked how our son was doing. He made Finn feel special and even organised a hot chocolate for him. At 1:00 in the morning, after an exhausting and worrying night at the hospital, a gesture like that meant far more to us than Eddie probably realised. He also took the time to point out Melbourne Park from our room and told us that The Wiggles would be there as part of the Grand Final Parade celebrations. Knowing we had a young son with us, it was another thoughtful little touch that showed Eddie was genuinely interested in making our stay enjoyable. What we will remember most about Eddie was the way he treated us. After a difficult night, he made us feel welcomed, cared for and genuinely looked after. People like Eddie are what guests remember about a hotel long after they have checked out. Please make sure our thanks and recognition are passed on to him. He is an exceptional ambassador for the Sofitel, and we are very grateful for the kindness he showed our family.
