We have been platinum members (now Diamond members) for almost 9 years. We have been staying at the Sofitel for over 10 years as our Melbourne hotel of choice and our kids have grown up with the club lounge experience. The last two times we have come to the Sofitel we have had the club lounge rules read out to us and staff advising or kids need to be charged to attend. This has not been the case previously. The lounge leadership has moved from us feeling valued and known to us feeling almost unwelcome unless we "pay more" and much less flexible An example was I arrived to the club lounge early (9.00am) last Friday morning so as I had a work meeting. Upon check in to the lounge the woman who checked us in went out of her way to tell me I could not have any food from the lounge until after 1pm. I had not planned to consume any food, but it just seemed so cheap and petty to have this told to me. My 6 yo daughter who needed to wait while I had my 30 min meeting asked me for a snack while I worked and I had to tell her no which just seemed ridiculous. The staff should understand the balance of "rules" and service quality and experience. I do not want rules told to me when I am trying to have a high quality and relaxed stay, and if my kid wants a sneaky snack or access to the club lounge with us - does this really matter in the scheme of how much we spend with Accor as Diamond members?! It did not used to matter but seems to be a "new" approach which is disappointing
