Our entire family (incl. 2 adult children) stayed at this lovely hotel over the ANZAC weekend, in 2 well-appointed and comfortable rooms. We enjoyed the lovely buffet breakfast on several mornings and coffee from the restaurant barista after a long day outing. The staff were wonderfully friendly, helpful and had great advise for us visiting the city. We were hemmed in on the ANZAC parade morning (which we were not warned about) and could not get the car out to go to other locations. Instead, we walked along the parade and back along the river frontage unit the roads were cleared.

Room not ready on arrival despite arriving after check in time. Told 'just getting the housekeeping manager to check' and then out the back phone calls. Waited and waited and waited. Room clearly not ready but so deceptive instead of just saying this. Understood it may not be ready but so dodgy. The same was said to someone else as well. Hated the fact they weren't honest and it just seemed to be a new practice to avoid giving compensation such as drink voucher. Stayed for my husband's birthday and had mentioned this. No happy birthday was said. Have stayed at other places where they have made it special by giving a card and wine or similar. No care whatsoever. Go up to the room and then shortly after there is a knock on the door and two (!!) teabags are delivered. There was no normal tea bags in the room and they hadn't restocked despite all the supposed checking the room was ready. To have only two teabags hand delivered was a joke in itself. Room spa was lovely and the only reason to stay. It is also the only reason I have given a 5/10 neuther satisfied or unsatisfied rating instead of an 'unsatisfied' level one. Breakfast was extremely average and basic. Things like having potato gems instead of hash browns etc. showed yet another cost cutter measure that impacts the experience. I have stayed at the Novatel Langley before and they made it a really lovely experience. We had fake rose petals on the bed in a shape of a heart with a card and wine when we stayed for our wedding anniversary a number of years ago. Were greeted with happy birthday and then wine in the room a number of birthday stays. Breakfast was fantastic. You could even get an omelette made and barista coffee was included. Last birthday stay last year they at least said happy birthday but breakfast was same as described. Experience had really decreased but this stay had gone anorher level down. We also at least waited in the bar with drinks vouchers as the room wasn't ready then as well. Now it seems that there is no care and it is all about saving money. Has meant that as a guest I also dont care about staying there again and will be about saving my money for a hotel that will make a birthday stay cation special! Please note that reception staff were professional but clearly working in their guidelines with what time say if a room wasnt ready etc. When leaving we weren't asked how our stay was. Assume they know the level of experience the hotel gives so it is best not to ask the guest this question!

Appreciated for the room upgrade and welcome amenities. The gym room overlooking the river view was fantastic. However, there is a remaining issue about complimentary late check-out for platinum members not yet settled, and the assistant manager James Murphy seems quite busy and not reply to my email. I am still waiting for the clarification.
