Very peasant stay in a great location, handy to parks, beach, walks and cafes. Parking easy underneath but watch height limitations in some sections, cost of $25/night. Clean and friendly. Great views to the beach/ocean.

Room is spacious and clean. Bed is comfortable. Foods in the restaurant are not very satisfactory. Oysters are tiny. Steaks are overdone. Chocolate tart should have been warmed up a little bit. But customer service across all sections are impressive. On the balcony outside the restaurant, the big white concrete poles in the air should have a “Mind your head” sign or soft padding protector. Tables should not be put right next to the pole. On 2 April in the morning I sat next to one of the poles and I hit my temple on the pole when I stood up and turned around. That really hurt. Generally speaking, the experience is OK considering the customer service is excellent, especially the young gentleman who served me in the restaurant on 1 April evening.

We haven't stayed for a while due to cost. We love staying but due to financial restraints we have been staying at the Sage Hotel. We constantly check your prices, but it's just too expensive (you also need to pay for parking) so we reluctantly return to the Sage (we hope to go back mid April)

Poor communication from staff, not enough functioning lifts, hot water outage, and problems with carparking... all during the Easter long weekend.

Just returned from a first-time stay. Very similar design DNA to Brighton Beach. New North Bar opened this week. Very impressive but won’t show its potential until surrounding areas are also upgraded I think. Was relieved to be upgraded to a large Studio Suite with low, (level five), but expansive beach/ocean views. Handy layout for a family with multiple beds, TVs, a dividing wall and sofa bed. Huge bathroom is super handy too with multiple children in there at a time. Particularly liked the automated curtains considering they were almost 10metres long, opening out to a huge balcony. Wouldn’t say I was given any personalised letter or acknowledgment as Diamond, but bottle of wine was sitting there (I obliged) and parking wasn’t charged. Internet was accidentally added and later refunded. Breakfast was full ‘serve yourself’ buffet - hot and tasty. Pool is freezing, the ocean much warmer, and both very accessible. Another good, beach resort-style option when the price is well under the norm.

Well located, poor service, bad overall experience.

The drain pipe leak in the parking lot was really bad. The lifts were chaotic - many guests were carrying their luggage up the stairs via the fire escape. There was no in-room dining service. We were asked to come down to the restaurant to eat. When we did get there to eat, we found that the overpriced food did not even match food that one would order in the food court at a mall. It tasted average and we even found a piece of aluminum foil in the pad thai.

Best Hotel in Wollongong and next to beach

We took a long weekend break down from Sydney. This is definitely one of the best hotels in Wollongong with a great beach location and some lovely nearby restaurants. Internally, the hotel is looking a bit tired on the decor front - not up to the usual Novotel standard I s add m used to. However, I appreciate there is some ongoing renovation going on to rooms and suites. I also noted a beautiful new bar area (which was unfortunately closed the entire weekend). The mini bar in the room was also empty and you need to phone to request this to be filled and maintained. The fridge door was very stiff moving the entire fridge if you attempted to open it. We also tried to order breakfast in bed in advance of our final day and was advised this isn’t normally done in advance by the hotel, you are best to phone or get a form to fill in. This wasn’t a straightforward process. The breakfast received was satisfactory, however, the coffee was a fail. Anyway we look forward to return trip later in the year.

Horrible experience, poor support, extremely dissatisfied

Our stay with Novotel Wollongong was horrible. On arrival there was no hot water, work on other rooms was been carried out and hammer drills and hammer knocks were banging for hours. Complaint was made with no real help. After leaving the hotel as we couldn’t relax after our 7 hour trip for the noise to stop. We return to attempt to relax again with a bath but could not due to the plug been broken and would not hold water. Just to top everything off the 2 story location across the road had guests party until midnight screaming profanity and noise which kept the children up all night. For a $450 night stay this was an absolute joke! Novotel should be disgusted in there service and facility’s!

Love the location. Not a great sleep though as BED IS TOO SOFT. It would be helpful if you had either a range of bed types (soft, medium, firm) and guests were able to indicate their preference when they booked. This was the softest (bad) bed we've experienced in a hotel for some time.

Great staff, dreadful rooms - damp problems

In the four nights I stayed at Novotel, I had to pack and move between three different rooms. The first night, I endured a dreadful damp smell in the room (8th floor) and then in the morning found why the smell existed... The open shower drains into the shower room (not in itself a problem), but the shower room drains out into the bedroom, instead of towards the shower room floor drain. A fairly basic design flaw. I mentioned the problem at reception, on my way into breakfast. The receptionist apologised and said she would attempt to move me, but would have to first check to see which room I could move to. I rushed breakfast to pack and meet the staff member from reception, upstairs in my room. She delivered the new key and I said I could make my way to the new room without assistance. As I entered the new room (6th floor), I thought I must be getting neurotic as this room seemed to smell of damp too. I didn't have time to do anything about it, as I wanted to unpack my clothes before travelling to my morning meeting. I retrieved a tumbler from the fridge, for my toothbrush and noticed the fridge was open, as the cupboard door makes it difficult to close the fridge door properly. The little milk containers were warm, but as they are UHT, I didn't worry - simply pushing the fridge door closed. That evening when I returned to the room, still trying to ignore the damp smell (do all rooms smell this way in the Novotel, I wondered?) I put the kettle on for a cup of tea and took off my shoes. Returning to the boiled kettle, in my stocking soles, I trod in a large wet patch of carpet in front of the fridge. That explains the damp smell - the open fridge door has caused the fridge condensation to run out, wetting the carpet. Almost in tears, after two long days of travel and work, I phoned reception and explained the problem. The receptionist was again very apologetic and offered to move me again. When the receptionist brought the new key to my room, he also offered to help me move my bags (I declined, having done it a few times now). To help alleviate the stress of my inconvenience, I was offered a bottle of wine, which I declined, but I did accept the subsequent offer of a few drinks vouchers to have some wine with dinner. Imagine my delight when I entered my third room (10th floor) and found that it did NOT small damp. The reception staff at the Novotel Wollongong were excellent at dealing with the issue, what a pity the hotel rooms have such basic flaws. These two rooms are not the only ones. When I mentioned the problems I had had to a colleague also staying at the hotel, he said that his room (8th floor) also smelled damp. I won't bother to tell you about the problems the staff had in coping with the rain water leaking in through the restaurant ceiling, as that did not affect my dinner booking.

We needed time out from family and their problems. Novotel is close to home in case we had to get home quickly, Paulines mum, who relies on us is 98, but far enough away to relax. Room was excellent, view was even better, did not expect that when we booked. So good we stayed an extra day. We will definitely be back.

This hotel is a gem and is undergoing major renovations. As a Diamond member, I was really impressed with the way they acknowledged my status (unlike another recent stay in a Novotel Hotel in Adelaide). My upgrade was amazing overlooking the beach and the welcome gifts were beyond what most hotels provide and very impressive. I was very pleasantly surprised with the recently refurbished restaurant and the breakfast food and beverage options were outstanding Many thanks to the hotel staff who were all very friendly and helpful. A special thanks to the restaurant staff for a truly great breakfast experience Overall this was one of the best Novotel Hotel experiences I have had in Australia and most definitely the best recognition of my ALL status anywhere. I would be pleased to recommend anyone to stay with your hotel

Avery pleasant stay with a great upgrade. Fantastic view from our 10th floor. All staff were very polite and helpful. ate at the restaurant and really enjoyed both dinner and breakfast.great location across from the beach.
