Mantra Wollongong

Because it was a peak season and we were not able to book 2 bedrooms from day 1, we had to swap rooms midway in the stay. When checking in, I mentioned if I can check in for both rooms in one go and to my surprise there was already a note on record to notify the team that I had a second booking. Check in was done for both rooms and on the day of the swap, the staff even brought the key to the new room to our current room and helped us with the transfer. Platinum status was also recognised with free car park which is fantastic. The car park is also very convenient and spacious. Definitely will come back.

This should not be rated as a 4 Star hotel. I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with my husband and 2 kids. The rooms are very spacious and having a kitchenette and washer dryer are very convenient. However, everything else was disappointing and cheap. Some of the furniture and fittings are more ‘modern’ but everything is mismatched. You can tell that they have spent the bare minimum to make any upgrades. During our 3 night stay we had to kill several mosquitos in the room which was concerning. The service is also terrible. The phone in the room doesn’t actually connect to reception. The receptionist also told us that not all rooms have a hair dryer, so he had to go find one from another room. When we arrived, we were supplied worth two sachets of dishwashing liquid. When I asked for more to hand wash my baby’s bottles, the receptionist told me that they don’t provide them any more and offered me the dishwasher powder. The next day I spotted plenty of dishwashing liquid sachets on the cleaner’s trolley. The cleaning service from the housekeeping on the third day was messy and rushed. They had dropped my baby’s dummy on the carpet and forgotten to put the lid back on the bin in bathroom. The supply room near the lift had been left opened during our whole stay, which is messy and unkempt. To top it all off, the lift is extremely slow and doesn’t even display which level it is currently on. At peak checkout time at 10am, quite a few families were taking the fire stairs.

Rather downmarket area, only close food available early in takeaways. Access from road only via steps - difficult with bags.Pleasant enough room. Helpful staff arranged early morning call and taxi. Much further from private hospital than expected. Overpriced.

Room 520 - Owned by Accom Stays - Located level 5 inside Mantra Hotel The actual room was at first pleasant, with a small ocean view, but had this distinct smoke aftertaste after spending the first 2hrs in the room. The first night we enjoyed the sudden bursts of cigarette inhallation and had a 2hr sleep, the balcony door offered less clean oxygen so it had to be closed. Over the course of the 2nd night, the spa bath and jets from above were turned on a 12pm, 2.02am, 3.30am and you get my drift. No hotel receptionist answered our calls and there was no way to contact hotel managment. In the meantime this person living above was having a great time enjoying chain smoking and you guessed it, i had my first asthma attack at 4.44am. None the less, i believe even the walls are hollow and the ventilation carries smoke consistently throughout room 520 on level 5. Thank you for my asthma and bloody nose. Also enjoy the safety defects of the circuit breaker exposed to all fellow visitors, make sure you keep your hand away when you open the wordrobe door. I decided to start at the Mantra as it was advertised as having a fully equipped kitchen. Imagine my surprise on my first morning to discover there was no fry pan and I was unable to cook breakfast. As there is no 24hr reception I tried phoning the number that was on the sign at the front desk. The girl who answered is obviously answering the phone for multiple hotels. She was nice enough but unable to help and unable to contact anyone who could. I expressed how upset I was, as I had paid significantly more than other hotels so that I could cook in the room. She told me someone would call me about the problem and discuss a partial refund. It is now nearly four weeks later and I'm yet to receive that call. There was a fry pan left in my room sometime that afternoon. I tried to cook the next morning, only to discover there was no cooking utensils either. The room was nice enough and the bed was comfortable. However it's woeful to advertise a room as having a fully equipped kitchen when it clearly is not.
