Given that this was part of the Mercure group (as opposed to Ibis), we had expected the quality and comfort of the mattress to be better. We could feel the springs and woke up with a sore back/neck…🙁

Bonjour Madame P., Mille mercis pour votre avis très positif à notre égard :) Les Ecocup misent en chambre sont en plastique recyclable, car nous tenons à garder nos engagements "clé verte". Nous avons déjà fait l'expérience des tasses en verre et ayant du malheureusement faire face à une quantité considérable de vols, nous avons dû opter pour une solution plus économique. Néanmoins, n'hésitez pas à vous adresser à la réception pour ce type de demande, nous aurions pu vous fournir une tasse exceptionnellement ;) Ça a été un plaisir de vous accueillir au sein de notre hôtel, nous espérons vous recevoir à nouveau très bientôt ! I always enjoy my stay at the Mercure hotel at Chambéry Centre. They have a great staff (from the receptionists, to the hotel clerk, to the room staff cleaners). They are currently renovating the hotel, so we can expect as clients for the hotel to be even more embellished.

They put a pending hold of 50 Euros per night (250 Euros in my case) on your card, no mention of this at check in. Renovation works ongoing but no mention of this when booking or at check in, simply a small notice in the lift in French, which you could easily miss. I was driven out of the hotel several times by the noise which started at 0800. I booked via Hotels.com and left a critical review. Somehow the hotel managed to censor the whole review and left a 'reply' suggesting that all had been hunky-dory, which was untrue (Hotels.com are investigating). Breakfast looked distinctly unappetising - and was expensive - so I ate at a local cafe every morning. The room was comfortable but wasn't, as they stated, soundproofed, noise from the street and traffic wasn't deafening but irritating, another lie. I wouldn't trust this hotel as far as I can throw them so won't be using them again. Will complain to Mercure directly, let's see if they respond positively.

Dear S2214GFrd, Thank you for your feedback. I'm quit surprised to see this comment online because for any guest complain, as a front office manager, i'm immediatly aware to manage with the guest. I'm trully sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. Do not hesitate to call the front desk during your stay if you don't like your room, at least i could propose you a solution on the spot. It is not possible to make a hold on your credit card without your permission since you need to put your 4 digits pin. The authorization guarantee has been set in our hotel for few reasons. First is that it allows you to leave fast upon check out, we have the possibility of validating the total amount of your invoice on the authorization left during your registration and sending you the bill by email. It fluidifies the queue in the morning. Second, some of our guest are big consumer espacialy at the bar, 50€ is going very fast ;). Third reason is that we faced a lot of unpayed bills, theaft and damages sometimes. For your information it is not possible to censor a review, hotels.com as every online plateform that sold the Mercure Chambery City Center manage their own reviews. We are only allowed to respond. We are sorry for your dissatisfaction with the breakfast. Our products are local and carefully selected, which explains the slightly high price. We prefer to choose the quality to satisfy the greatest number of our customers. We’re trully sorry that the room did not meet your expectations. Be informed that we’ve started to make a full renovation of the hotel. We’ve already done the lobby, the corridors, the meeting rooms and the breakfast room. Staff very helpful and restaurant next door was fantastic. Please bear in mind you can't park at the hotel with a roof rack however, overnight secure parking very close by.
