Great value and comfortable if you can see beyond the surroundings

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

Skotti56 TripAdvisor review

I think this hotel used to be called the Mercure Mériadeck and this would be a more appropriate name. It’s not really in the city centre but about 15 minutes walk. Many others have mentioned the immediate surroundings and all of the descriptions fit. Dystopian dehumanised 1960s vision of a future that never was. And therein lies the problem. It’s just not a nice are to be in. Even at its best it would been cold and unwelcoming but the Meriadeck is now dirty and run down and it’s not a nice area to walk through at night. None of this however is the fault of the hotel. It’s situated where it is. But I’m giving this hotel 4 stars for the following reasons: The largely young hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They are well managed and it shows. The rooms were recently renovated and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, the AC highly effective and the room was silent. We slept well. We got a very attractive deal for the hotel from Accor and each night bed and breakfast even in July was very reasonable. I price checked against other hotels and no deal came close. So if you want easy access to the historic centre of Bordeaux and can look past how grim the Meriadeck is, this is a good value for money choice. If I got a similar deal, I’d stay here again.

I stayed for 3 nights in July. On Saturday night I arrived back at 2am and I couldn’t get access to the hotel - the number to call wouldn’t go through and I was 25 minutes outside alone before the night porter came back. He was quite rude to me and didn’t seem to care how I felt.

It was a pleasant stay. We stayed 4 nights. Initially we had issues with housekeeping but eventually it got all sorted out. Overall it was comfortable. Location was convenient too. Parking rates are too high hence we had to park on streets.

Hotel close to the City Center with some weakness on cleanliness and breakfast

Hotel is good located. Very friendly employees at the reception. Chair in my room was dirty, so I didn’t want to sit on it. Breakfast offer was weak, same offer all 3days, scrambled eggs and sausages not tasty. Not enough personnel to keep the breakfast area clean, dirty tables, used dishes standing there for more than half an hour.

Not Centre Ville

Tricia B TripAdvisor review

We arrived very late, reception were very nice and friendly, the bar was unfortunately closed, so we went straight to our room and went to bed. In the morning we noticed that the room was very large, but sparsely furnished. Not a drawer to be found, or shelves, or a desk, oh and why when you book a room for two people is there only one chair? Also, the room was very dark and dingy, overlooking what was a concrete jungle. Breakfast was good, normal continental and cooked items. On exploring, the hotel is not in a very salubrious location, there is a huge concrete shopping mall opposite, and mostly what looked like social housing, and generally quite run down, and certainly not in the Centre Ville. There was a tram close by, which went to the cathedral, the river, oh and the airport, for €1.80 per trip, that was a life saver for us as my husband is not able to walk very well. There’s no real restaurant, just an eating area by the bar. I certainly wouldn’t call it a 4 star hotel. The staff at the hotel were nice and helpful.
