Having spent a week travelling through France staying Marriott and Hilton properties, I wanted to try Accor in Rennes and signed up to the All Accor program. I chose the Mercure Centre Gare as it was at the upper end of what I’d paid per hotel for the rest of the trip and also at the same 4* standard that we’d seen throughout. The hotel in comparison to the other hotels i’d stayed at was nowhere near four star standard and the room had clearly been patched up over the years as opposed to being renovated. Layer upon layer of wallpaper, mould spots in the corners of the bathroom, tired furnishings. The single soap product (compared to four products per bathroom in every other four star hotel this week) had a horrible smell to it and didn’t compare to the other products we’d used at other hotels. I’d paid extra for Breakfast which had no scrambled eggs for 10 minutes. We waited for someone to change them around but the old crusty pan sat there with no staff changing. When they did pick up the pot, they didn’t return after 10 minutes. The hotel and service was not four star standard having stayed at another four hotels in the last week
