The staff at the reception was generally very nice and caring. However several times they could not communicate properly in English or did not understand a specific situation or explanation. I also contacted the reception several times for some defects (such as broken iron that let sparks when used) and I was promised housekeeping would soon take care of the issues. This never happened. Things only happened once I emailed my organizations designated contact person there. A second issue was with the drains in both the kitchen sink and the bathroom that started to smell like sewage when a bit of water was introduced, so for example when I would wash the dishes, the room would fill with the smell of sewage (apparently my room was not the only one with this issue) . The cleaning was mostly okay, bedsheets etc were always good and the cleaning staff was always very friendly, however many times dust or spider web etc in the room would not be cleaned during cleaning days so some spots remained not cleaned for months, but this did not bother me too much as it was just something that I noticed. Location wise the place is what it is, I understand that there is not much to be done. Again however the park/cemetery behind Mercure that would need to be crossed in order to reach the S-bahn was filled with rats running around making it quite unpleasant to come back in the evening. Perhaps this is not the hotels issue but they could somehow take action at the local area to reduce this rodent issue.

The staff is great, always attentive and willing to find solutions. The sauna and the gym are a real plus. It would be even better if the carpet could be removed from all the rooms.

The hotel otself is good, but there should be nore flexibulity when room change is requested due to the noise from the bar and the street.

I have visited the hotel a couple of times over the years in correlation with the Ambiente fair. I have seen a drastic improvement for the restaurant and bar area. Food and drinks are much better. I was very empressed with the food especially. Only comment I have is that I would encourage the bar staff to use fresh squeezed lemon juice and similar instead of pre-mixed store bought mixers. A small thing that make a big difference with a cocktail experience. Please also remember the egg white in cocktails such as Sour cocktails.
