Strange place

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

Frank21040 Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

Strange place. Room 427 was big with big open bathroom and very comfortable beds (even I asked for one king one). Breakfast below expectations, especially for 4stars hotel. Terrible neighborhood - didn’t expect such section in any German town. Will think twice to book it again. Maybe for young ones it could be OK but for them it’s probably too expensive.

Stay Somewhere Else

Terrible neighbourhood, no gym, sauna is in the middle of the rooftop bar, non-existent housekeeping and a restraunt that won’t take orders. No recognition of ALL status. Upon check-in was allocated a room allready occupied, then moved to a room with no towels. No apology received. No welcome drink for platinum status ALL member, bottles thrown all night on the street outside limiting sleep and non existent advertised facilities- gym and sauna. No service at rooftop bar despite waiting half and hour.

Lovely Hotel inside, scary area full of drug addicts outside

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

Once inside the hotel, it is of course a Bastian of niceness, cool decor, friendly staff. However, outside is another story. I have never seen so many people shooting up in various parts of their bodies, and I didn't feel very safe leaving the hotel. We arrived late on Friday, and the restaurant was fully booked at that point, so we walked down the road, which was full of drug addicts in various states. At least 15 were shooting up. I didn't feel safe, scurried back to the hotel and had crisps from the mini-bar for dinner. When we went out another evening, later, we came back in pairs to ensure our safety (and I am a grown 40+ year old man!). We were slightly followed by a drug dealer for a short period saying "english, english" trying to get my attention. Once in the hotel, it really is fantastic, but it didnt feel like the sort of place you could go out for a late night stroll or much of an explore in the day time, so would recommend staying somewhere else where you feel less threatened until the local authorities manage to support the unfortunate addicts better. When it does, the place is fantastic, particularly the roof top sauna.

Unfortunately our stay was a complete chaos and I would never-ever recommend this hotel to anyone! We got a noisy room, had to switch in the middle of the night around 12 pm. The newcomer receptionist forgot to tell us that room 112 was exactly above the disco of the hotel where a party was being held till 3 am in the morning…. The payment also went wrong….terrible! I asked the receptionist, who has been working there only for three weeks, to make us pay at the time of check-in for the entire stay. I paid, and the next day I had to find out that he didn’t make us pay for the entire stay but for only one night, despite the fact that he had checked TWICE in the computer if we had paid for both nights. The breakfast system is also quite interesting ‘cause you have to order everything on a menu and not take your stuff from a buffet. I am not against this but it’s not the system that I am used to…it’s a bit time consuming, I think, and if you are in a hurry it’s inconvenient. Oh, and the air conditioning in our new room 517 was also not working well. It felt like…the air conditioner was literally impotent! The neighborhood of the hotel was terrible but this is normal in Frankfurt and don’t be surprised if you find drug dealers and drunken people in front of your hotel entrance, this is absolutely normal. The deposit of €50 was also a strange thing to me. If you don’t trust your people please don’t leave valuable stuff in the rooms it’s just so cheesy…to ask for a deposit, come on! We are in the 21st century… Possibly stay away from this place! ;)

Thank you for your feedback! We really appreciate it!

Good choice to stay centrally

In terms of location, this is very convenient as it is close to the main railway station, which can easily be reached from the airport. From there you can quickly catch the subway or S-Bahn to everywhere in the City. As others have noted, the neighborhood is on the rough side, that is on your way from the station to the hotel you will encounter junkies who are dealing and consuming openly on the street. I found that when leaving the hotel, going right, under the porte cochere and left you can enter the main station through a side entrance and the way there is slightly more peaceful. It was my first time in a 25 hours hotel, and the concept seems similar to Mama Shelter: eclectic design and a trendy dining area. It is a change say from a Novotel and why not. The room itself was nice, designed in blue, modern and clean. I had a room not overlooking the inside courtyard and it was quiet. There is a mini-fridge with free contents, a nice touch. The safe is not large enough to hold a laptop, not ideal. I did not try the dining options. The price was reasonable when compared to other Accor options in Frankfurt. So a good choice to stay central, if you can live with the neighbourhood.
