I chose this Ibis for the location and the breakfast and was not disappointed. It's right in the center, not far from the train station and breakfast was varied, including eggs and bacon, etc. The rooms were air conditioned so we could close the windows to keep out most of the noise from the street. But our second room was near a elevator that ran all night.

We were welcomed by a delightful staff member. My room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast offered many choices, and was a very relaxed experience with informal self selection. Hotel stored our luggage until we departed for the station. I have stayed here annually, and never been disappointed.

Room was clean but the noise outside was terrible which meant we hardly slept: People coming back from a night out and having really loud conversations in the square below our room; Bins full of glass bottles being pushed along the road as venues shut; Dustbin lorries arriving early am to collect said bins. The hotel receptionist had nothing to say when I complained about it and no discount was offered. We won't be staying here ever again. Shame as the location is good and I can't fault the level of cleanliness. Breakfast was pretty good too.

I’ve been in badly managed hotels before - but this one is the first which tries to make the customer angry before he arrives! Well done! Has parking says the app - but there is no sign post, and no place to stop and ask at the reception. Few hundred meters later, I could stop and call: All (of the six!!!) parking spots were occupied, so sign-posts would be besides the point. I could park at the Parking de l’Opera (which I passed two minutes ago). The return drive is about 15-20 minutes through small old-town roads. The very friendly receptionist (Mohammed) of course knows the story all too well - but he makes much less than the management (I’m sure!) - so the management must know MUCH better! Ah - and if you click in the app for directions, you get redirected to Google and the first hit is B&B Hotels Grand Palace. I guess, Google knows, why.

I wanted to give this review some time before writing, and want to, for now, give the benefit of the doubt without making this public. I will detail below, but as someone who has travelled quite a bit, and is used to budget accommodations, this was a poor hotel and an unfortunate experience. We were booked for two nights at ibis Lille. Initially, the day of our initial check-in, my travel partner fell too ill to travel and we had to extend our stay in our prior destination to permit recovery. I called ibis Lille to explain the situation, and was fully transparent that I had chosen to purchase the non-refundable room option, but asked if there was any type of possible accommodation for a refund, or even to stay another night and apply the night we were unable to use to that night. Frankly, I would have been fine if the answer was simply that because I chose the non-refundable option, there was nothing they could do. What bothered me was the response was actually something along the lines of "there might be, but my director is on holiday and I personally cannot do that." Nonetheless, I said I understood and ensured that we would be arriving the next day for the second night of our two-night stay. When we arrived the next day, the receptionist at the front desk basically told us our stay had been cancelled, and then argued with me when I explained that I called the prior day. Until I pulled out my phone and showed the hotel's phone number and specifically mentioned the comment about the director/manager being on holiday, it was, frankly, an extremely rude experience. After that, I must admit the receptionist was able to give us a room and logistically, the rest of the stay was fine. What mostly made this stay a poor experience was the condition of this hotel. The hotel, although well-located, is, put best, in run-down in condition. The door to our room had trouble closing unless I put my full force into closing it, there were stains on the pillows, the one-power charger (which was poorly located and not near the bed) only partially worked, and most critical, the bathroom was frankly disgusting. I also must mention the near non-functioning elevator. As I mentioned earlier, I often travel and use budget accommodations, and am well-equipped for a lack of amenities. But this hotel is worse than hostels I have stayed in around Europe. Honestly, it was not worth the money and I certainly won't recommend this hotel to anyone else after my experience. I'll also just add that this was my first experience with ibis or Accor brands, and this left a sour taste in my mouth. To be fair, my trip extended to Brussels from Lille, and I stayed at the Brussels ibis off grand place. That was a fantastic hotel and experience, which if anything, made the experience in Lille worse. ibis should focus on attempting to bring its Lille Centre Grand Place location into the standard of half of what the Brussels ibis off grand place location is, and it would be much better off.
