We had not stayed at this hotel for a number of years and it didn’t disappoint. We love the location in the old town area of La Rochelle. All the staff we met were so professional and helpful and very friendly. The breakfast were fantastic, great selection on top quality food. The rooftop pool is an added bonus. Highly recommended.

I always like to stay at different Mercure hotels in France and as always had an exceptionally comfortable stay. The hotel is very welcoming and well situated with a very short walk to all points of interest. The room was spotless and had good tea and coffee facilities. Extremely well located - walking distance to all shops, restaurants & bars. The room was comfortable. I would have liked more coffee sachets & milk to be provided but apart from that I have no complaints. The parking availability was good. The staff member I dealt with on reception had a good know of English & was very polite & helpful. I enjoyed the stay so much we are returning on Sunday for another night. La Rochelle is beautiful and this hotel has everything you could need and is in the perfect location to explore.

2 night stay for first visit to La Rochelle. Hotel is very well located, parking available on site. Standard level room was fine, our view over the port was lovely. Breakfast was very good, with a wide choice of food and some good local options. We were aware at the time of booking that dogs are allowed in the hotel, but were a bit surprised to see them in the restaurant at breakfast. Personally don’t think this should be the case, in particular we saw a few people with their dogs on laps actually feeding them at the table, which we feel is not acceptable.

Excellent location for the main tourist spots and safe and secure parking. Unfortunately our ‘Privilege Double Room’ was lacking. There was no dressing table for my wife, there were no drawers for our clothes, the wardrobe had limited hanging space as a lot of it was taken up with an ironing board and iron! We didn’t need the iron and board, but more space for a week’s worth of our clothes. When I asked for more coat hangers, I was given three and told “we don’t have anymore…”. Although the room had a coffee machine, there were very few pods for it and no milk. The kettle would have been more use if they had supplied English Breakfast Tea and again, some milk, we repeatedly had to ask for milk. The pool was lovely, but unfortunately not nearly sufficient sun loungers and the area lacked any staff to maintain it. Reception staff, unless you approached them, never acknowledged you as you entered or exited the hotel, not even a smile if they couldn’t manage a ‘Bonjour’ - my wife and I found this very poor, not to be greeted. However, the star of the reception staff was Gwenellia, a young lady who went above and beyond to assist me. She telephoned the local BMW Dealership and acted as a translator, to convey a serious problem with my car. This enabled me to have the problem fixed and my wife and I to use the car and enjoy our holiday. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the restaurant GAÉE. The food and wine were delicious, the service was excellent, we would highly recommend.

This is our third visit to this hotel, parking is great. Space is over large and safe and secure. It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Hotel it’s in a brilliant location for everything La Rochelle . Unfortunately since our last visit things have changed , our room was not clean (our last visit spotless) all around the back of the bathroom. Were you would but your perfume, et ceteraIt was very dusty and dirty on the floor , the hand towels were dirty too and looked old ,we feel that even though we had booked a privilege room we had taken our dog with us and Phil that that maybe why the standard had dropped or they hadn’t had the time to clean it. We also had a coffee machine and pods but no mugs to make a coffee. We were then told that we had to go to the restaurant to pick up mugs for the coffee machine . Normally this hotel offers a welcome drink after driving on and off for nine hours we were both really looking forward to our welcome drink unfortunately they don’t do this anymore. On day one of two night stay we left the hotel early (8.30ish)to walk our dog and have some breakfast in La Rochelle we returned at 12:40pm to find our room was still not cleaned the lady who was cleaning said that’s because they have to do all of the rooms that people have vacated first, but we wanted to relax in our room after walking around La Rochelle . We love stopping at La Rochelle. It is such a beautiful city and Harbour area and great restaurants bars to chill at and watch the world go past but we are not sure that we would come back to stay in this hotel after this experience. Which is a real shame as it is a gem of a hotel apart from the few experiences we’ve had this time.

We felt very comfortable at the Hôtel Mercure La Rochelle Vieux-Port! It was a pleasant stay. We would also like to mention one small issue: Although we understand that the hotel car park exit is managed by a different provider, it would be greatly appreciated if exiting by car could be made easier. Two credit cards that work everywhere else were not accepted, and entering the PIN did not work. Our suggestions for improvement would be to issue a plastic card instead of a paper slip and to make PIN entry easier. It would also be helpful to offer the option of paying at the reception desk. We noticed that other guests were experiencing similar difficulties. Apart from this minor issue, our stay was excellent.
