This is our favorite hotel that we call home in Marseille. The entire hotel staff team are exceptional and should be commended for making guests feel welcome. My only suggestion is to renovate your rooms, improve the air conditioning quality, and fix your showers.

From pulling up in the car, the Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port team were excellent. Very welcoming, genuinely friendly and helpful, in fact what you expect in a 5 star hotel but is often found wanting. Great location (just leave the car and walk) and when you return later and after you have freshen up, head to the top floor to have a cocktail and then dinner at their excellent restaurant with the best views of this unique location. We will be back!

It was nice only that the Hammam was not what it should be. It shouldn’t be called hammam.

The location of the hotel is not the best for walking around Marseille, as it is on a small hill. It takes about twenty minutes to get to the centre of the Vieux-Port, and takes about forty-five minutes to an hour to walk (without ferry) to Le Panier neighbourhood even though you can see Fort Saint-Jean very well from the hotel. However, there are buses with stops close to the hotel so it is probably advisable to take those over walking. My main issue with the hotel is that my room had no air conditioning. We raised the issue with reception at roughly 8pm on the first night of our stay. Shortly afterwards, a member of staff came to check on the air conditioning and told us that he would come back in 10-20 minutes with an update. He did not return, and after close to an hour of waiting, we called reception who told us that there was no way to fix the air conditioning that evening. We were not given an alternative room as the hotel was fully booked, which was completely fine, but were provided with a very old and unstable fan when we reiterated that the room was unbearably hot. The fan was in such terrible condition that we had to prop it up against the wall and push a suitcase against it so that it would not topple over. We were told that at 9am the next day, they would send the technician to our room to fix it but the technician never actually visited the room. The air conditioning remained broken for our second night and we were really glad to check out. The lack of air conditioning, but mainly how hot the room was, badly affected my health. I had an asthma flare up as well as issues with eczema on my hands due to the heat. Now, I fully understand that if the air conditioning cannot be fixed, it cannot be fixed. I was just really disappointed with how poor the communication was. There was a lot of time spent waiting hoping that the situation would change, without anyone actually updating us. And of course, the situation didn’t actually end up changing for the better. I think that Novotel (same group of hotels) next door also get access to Sofitel’s spa pool. In addition, they also have a nice rooftop pool which you can see from the Sofitel Dantes Sky Lounge. If you want to keep your ALL points, maybe just go to Novotel. I really don’t think that the amount we spent for our stay was reasonable at all, considering how the stay unfolded.
