We had a two night break travelling up from the south of France. This is a comfortable and quiet hotel well situated on the edge of Amboise. A great base for walking and cycling.

I gave my credit card details when I reserved the room for 2 nights. When I arrived you took a holding amount from my card which you said was for extras, this has happened before so I didn’t think anything more about it. While staying in Amboise I used the same card without incidence but when I checked out you said the room charge would be deducted from the amount you were holding. The next time I tried to use my card was on the autoroute on my way to catch a ferry in St Malö and it was refused. Fortunately I had a UK card but if I hadn’t I would have been unable to reach my destination. I rang the hotel to find out what had gone wrong because the problem must have been with you and your checkout procedure. I was told the bank were at fault which was impossible as I had been using my card and that I should contact them. This is the first problem I have had after staying in Novotels in France for many years and I believe the failure was something unique to how the checkout was processed. The explanation and subsequent email accepted no responsibility when clearly the fault was yours. You owe me more than an apology if you wish to retain a previously loyal customer.
